The Jelas ponds are part of the national ecological network and are proposed for entry into the European ecological network NATURA 2000 as an important area for birds. The Jelas field with ponds has been proclaimed an International Important Bird Areas (IBA).

Fishponds are artificial wetland habitats. They are nestling points, feeding grounds, bird's winters. On the Jelas ponds nesting is a spider, a gray heron, a whitish eagle, a canyon, a wild goat. Here we can see a small and large white kettle, a gourd, a yellow pot, a duck breast. Fields near the fish farm are cattle, and the surrounding forests nest black. Fishermen are an important island habitat.
