I think I've said once here, that I've noticed, that house sparrow (Passer domesticus) as species has become very rare - not these days, but already long time ago. I had a bird feeder last about ten years ago, but even couple of years before that I didn't see house sparrows. Very very occasionally a male or female stopped by, but it was really rare. Instead of them, the tree sparrows took over everywhere (30-40, even 25 years ago they didn't live in towns, so - urbanisation, lol). I've asked from other people, some of the specialists, but no one answered me, none did know, what's all about.
Then someone posted a picture from Tallinn Zoo, and yes, there were some house sparrows among tree sparrows (Passer montanus), but I think it doesn't count, bc the zoo is a large institution and huge territory and there are lots of food for sparrows, so it is an exception.
Now, in the light of the other feeder cameras in America, recently posted and watched, I started to dig out the information about american birds, which I know very little, especially tropical ones. Yes, I know black crow, cardinal, blue jay and bald eagle, also the roadrunner and turkeys in the USA, tucans and nandus and condors in South, hummingbirds and parrots, but that's almost it. So I also collected all the books I could get from the library. And voila - here's the one - Camilla de la Bedoyere. Spot 50 garden birds. In estonian it is published at 2015, but original is at 2010 - so, it is almost the same time I've noticed house sparrows vanishing as a species.
And she says like that:
A house sparrow is the most common and numerous bird, but at the last times it seems to dissapear. Even this much, that in UK it has been put under protection. And no one can explain that phenomenon, I mean that world-widely dissapearing.
So, can you tell me, what do you think about it?

Cax!
in this, ten years old, study about this theme concerning the population of this bird species in Britain are many causes mentioned. many of them i think can be reasons world wide. not all, everywhere, but some of them more here - and others more elsewhere.
taken together, this results into this devastating decrease of number.

sometime I wrote here about my landlords, they removed a splendid hedge. all its residents disappeared of course also - a big number house sparrows!
