They are also very dangerous for doves and pigeons. It must be one of the former Makov inhabitants they cured and released too close to the place and so it returned.
Mr. Šejna wrote that this hawk is old male - not their released bird
(I think we see not usually if bird is sick or had another "handicap")

EDIT 06.01. asteria, your contribution in Makov Guestbook is very hard understandable - I think, better is to write in English and direct to Mr. Šejna email: csop.makov@gmail.com - https://www.makov.cz/clanky/kontakt-autor-5.html

Read the last messages in the guestbook and didn't find any similar nicks with mine. But yes, somebody left a long translated message about Snehurka and cleaning the pond and right now the pond has been cleaning, although the birds are not too happy with it(as always :rotf: ).

No, such a nick wouldn'd have opened the door. I guess it must be one of new users from youtube chat, who is always worried on Snehurka.

During breeding Barunek and Barunka will live near the big pond outside Makov. It's good for them, they'll get enough space but how will they be protected from predators and curious people?

I read that:
Mute swans - they are very aggressive in defence of breeding and brood-rearing territory, typically March–August; the birds have known to attack and critically injure children and pets; as adults they are not often preyed on unless they are old or ill (few natural predators), ...

I hope for the best.

Mr. Libor wrote that: "due to last year's experience with geese we have prepared a swan-run in the adjacent pond for swans, where they will be able to both - just as well water as land, so they will be there in the spring; i.e. they will not be in the rescue station area. For them it is a better environment to reduce the risk of attacking other birds, swans at the time of nesting are really dangerous."

It looks like the swan couple was moved to the other place about 3.5 hours ago.

Labutě jsme dnes přendali dolu pod síť, kde budou asi 14 dnů, než tam pustíme černé čápy. Pak půjdou na vedlejší rybník do výběhu, kde kamera není.

I understood Barunki are now at the Black pond area for 14 days before Tonik&Tonichka are released from the aviary, but it is not clear why the swans were moved from their place before March. Any moving is an additional stress for them.

good Morning :hi:

Do not the swans have any more space in Makov Station?
I understand that they become aggressive (brood). But they can not defend themselves well in danger ... or do I see that wrong?
I am sure that Makov people understand their job and know what they are doing but it is sad if they are brought somewhere else. They are favorites of so many people ... I do not understand .... sad

Hi sova,

Barunki are not that aggressive yet, but when they start breeding, they a) will need much more space than that tiny pond and b) may be very dangerous for other animals(more dangerous than Vendelin was) and even for people defending their eggs or chicks. So they will stay in the new place to avoid those problems. It is sad for Vejirka and cam watchers but there is no choice. I saw swans with cygnets and I can say that they attack anyone, even when you feed them if they suppose you may hurt their kids. One such swan was beating a drake as mad just he was too close near the cygnets!
