This afternoon, I made an attempt to understand the X, Y and Z axes, mentioned in the tracker maps.
I wanted to know what it means for the inclination (rotation) of the body of the bird (the transmitter).
I made this drawing (starting from this info + drawing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_dynamics )
The six degrees of freedom:
Translational motion: (Translational motion is the motion by which a body shifts from one point in space to another.)
Moving forward and backward on the X-axis. (Surge)
Moving left and right on the Y-axis. (Sway)
Moving up and down on the Z-axis. (Heave)
Rotational motion:
Tilting side to side on the X-axis. (Roll)
Tilting forward and backward on the Y-axis. (Pitch)
Turning left and right on the Z-axis. (Yaw)

There's a strong undersampling in time and likely much more beak movements down in reality.
For feeding the velocity should indicate zero and altitude be nearly constant.
The total acceleration should be c. 980, if the bird is not changing its position rapidly, and higher if it moves itself from a static observation position to an immediate catch position (strikes to have a fish) during the measurement. The total acceleration can be calculated as a square root of sum of squares of three acceleration components, and is not provided by the transmitter.
Pitch, yaw and roll angles can further be calculated from the acceleration component (m/s2) ratios and velocity parameters (m/s, angle).

Unfortunately, the exact formulas for calculating the 'total acceleration' and the 'rotational motion angles' that you mention here are a bit too complicated for me.
To consult the graph can be very reassuring if we see hardly any movements on the tracker map for several hours.
If the velocity is zero and the altitude is nearly constant and we see pitching on the Y-axis, Karula is catching fish. Or frogs.
You are right: because the data are recorded only every fifteen minutes, of course, we only see a part of the motions.

You are welcome. But maybe I should have more emphasized that the directional parameters Roll - Pitch - Yaw are rotational angles, expressed in radians. Acceleration components x - y - z are changes of velocity plus changes of existing external acceleration because of changing direction of transmitter in space, both expressed in meters per second squared.
What is measured by the system and displayed in graphs is acceleration. You can read y-acceleration in such a way that it qualitatively tells of beak down / beak up rotation (pitch), because this rotation causes different portion of the Earths gravity acceleration becoming a part of y-component of acceleration.

It's entirely my fault, I should have paid more attention to what they taught us at school, long ago...
I am anyway glad that we can read the y-acceleration in such a way that it qualitatively tells beak down/beak up rotation (or pitch).

Sorry for my unclear writings. I try again: There are two accelerations to be measured jointly and inseparably: One is due to a change of movement (acceleration) of the bird itself and another due to the Earth's gravity, which is acceleration as well. If the bird is not moving or moves at constant velocity only, the measured acceleration components indicate in which direction is "down" in the Earth's gravity field relative to the data logger.
