Btw, since 21:05 till 21:32 Ivo was standing next to the egg, he didn't cover it and when he left then stepped also on the egg

Yes. It's not really working out yet. Ivo could warm the egg just as well during the time he is standing around...Hellem wrote: April 27th, 2019, 10:46 pm Btw, since 21:05 till 21:32 Ivo was standing next to the egg, he didn't cover it and when he left then stepped also on the egg

and the following 7 equal votes we have a clear favourite for the new Lady´s name - and it is *tadaaa* ---> Iiris / Iris
I´d say both spellings are okay, Iiris as well as Iris. Some members may wish to use the Estonian spelling, others the one with the single 'I'

I will use Iiris. Iris we already have here in Germany, that's too ordinary for me...Bea wrote: April 27th, 2019, 10:54 pm °°°

The fish delivery at 21:05. Iiris is really stepping right on the middle of the egg.

Somebody always has to complain.

I wish Ivo would be a little more caring. I love this osprey but we know it differently.

Both versions of the name are beautiful.
I will use Iris.

I suggest the names Ilvi and Ilma. Or is it too late?

Hello Halina, welcome to the forum!

Yes, I fear it is too late, we had clear votes for Iiris / Iris.

Halina,

The result was too clear. Other names wouldn't stand a chance...

Can't we still limit it to Liris? Liris or liris ...
I don't find a double possibility so optimal.

, Liris isn't a name in Estonia and Iris is more popular (438 woman have this name) then Iiris (202 woman with this name)
, both are nice names

Our Lady has a name !!
Iris is beautiful, and it suits her wonderfully.
(I will use the spelling with one "i" like we do in Spain)

I just watched that..it does not look good at all

Fingers crossed that the stream is back up tomorrow and we can see the egg intact...but I am not sure .
I have watched it now several times.
I fear it is broken.

Hello everyone! Do we already have a female name?... The vote took place just during one afternoon/evening, without any warning on the previous day that next day we choose the name of the Lady?...

Yesterday and even still this morning there was no talk about the voting. It is a Saturday, many people were not online during the day... no-one knew that today is the day when the name will be chosen.
The Lady will be for us for a long time, around 5 months at least or longer.. why such a hurry, to give her a name in just a few hours?

In fact, certainly more people did not make their decision.. Not everyone is checking the forum on Saturday, during the day! For sure, many of us assumed that these names will be put forward for a real voting.mogga wrote: April 27th, 2019, 3:49 pm °°°
Hyacinth (Irja, Iiris/Iris) and Galina (Ivi, Iris) haven't made their final decision yet.
There was never any talk that the name has to be decided by Saturday afternoon.
Yes, me too... More votes would come if there would be a bit more time given.Bea wrote: April 27th, 2019, 4:54 pm I still have to think about and find my favourite one. Maybe still more votes will come from others, too.
I like Iiris too, but this was much too fast. This was not a fair opportunity for everyone who really cares about this nest to cast their vote.

I've seen ospreys step on eggs before but never saw one break as a result. Let's hope for the best!

No matter, whether there is a huge vote of one week with an extra topic with 20 possibilities of choices or whether one sometime lets things "roll", that develop in a short way --- there will always be members who will not be pleased with the result or the way things were handled. One will never be able to make things *right* for everyone. I experience this since years meanwhile.
Last year I was even called being a "Nazi" because someone was not pleased with the procedure, how things were handled and I didn´t jump for his/her liking.
I myself neither voted for the new females´ name and thought that there was more time to find a name - but things went different this time. Every year has its own dynamics and sometimes it is difficult to be heard when one asks for more patience or more time.
Naming the birds is a nice (is it ???) habit in a forum, for us observers, but nothing more. Are WE and our imaginings important or the birds?
We gather here to observe ospreys, to find out how they live, about their behaviour, their reproducing, rising chicks.
Will they mind with which name we call them in the forum? No.
Will the names, with which we call them, change anything that is going to happen on the nest? No.
So please, can we come back a bit more "with the feet on the ground"?
Last season, the offspring of a really famous Estonian Greater spotted Eagle, Tõnn, grew up without a big naming ceremony, was in the end called Tõnnipoeg (son of Tõnn) without any vote - and the world kept on revolving since that ...
I think I am beginning to understand why on many other nests/webcams birds get no names, but are only called with their ring-ID or as males/Dad and female/Mom or get unpersonal names like D1/D2/D3 and more like this ....

you first have to upload your picture to a picture host, who supports direct linking to a forum. Many of us use picr.de (only this night one can´t upload pictures, due to maintenance work on their server).
Then you can insert the given link here in your posts, using the [img] [ /img] button
More about showing pictures here in the forum one can find in a tutorial about adding images:

Thanks for the help Bea, now I understand the reason for adding a link. Will try as soon as I can. Will you, as moderator, remove things that are wrong? Thanks again // Egrids
