19.42.30 The first egg (maybe someone will tell the time more precisely). The video is quite long.

Tatyana, the time was pretty exactly 19:40 cam time, maybe plus a few seconds.

Weather is not exactly in favour of the poor eagles. It's going to be wet, windy and cold with a chance of snowfall during Saturday night.

May 3

The female left the nest (probably got some prey outside), Magnus came to cover the egg, but typically male, just tossed and turned around, twig disturbed, one more round ... :rotf: The female called from outside and off he was, mating sounds and a few moments later the female came back with some hay.

Magnus was in one of the trees behind when he came over for a incubation shift change. Maybe he spends his nights in the trees in that area and guards the nest.
It took him a while until he felt that the egg was in a position that he can settle down on it

The female got a juicy frog for breakfast. Both left, mating sounds in the background, working on a second egg?
Female returned short after that.

I'm fascinated.
They are such inconspicuous, simple animals. Apart from their reputation.
They were so rare to see and suddenly the egg is in the nest. :faint: :D

I will observe the breeding for the first time and I am very curious.

Mrs Magnus breeds very quietly. =) She does not call, hardly moves ... is it in the nature of this kind?

Do we know anything about Mrs. Magnus? Did somebody identify the ring?

We are looking for a name for our sweet lady here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=976&p=651776#p651776

Yes, they have something, those "small" eagles. When I followed the first breeding season, already quite some years back, I quickly fell for them! They are eagles with all what belongs to being one, from the first days of their life.
So far the behaviour is going along with what I remember from previous years, and it is fascinating how similar some things are running.

What do we know about her? Not much. I have asked Urmas, but apparently the ring number reading was not correct, or there was not yet the chance to look further, I don't know, but he could not tell me anything. But he is very busy right now with other projects, so it might be just lack of time. But she should be Magnus' partner for a longer time, as he wrote they know that the female on the nest wears a ring, which they could so far not read.

By the way, German viewers here may be interested to hear that "Deutsche Wildtierstiftung" follows one Latvian LSE cam since years: https://schreiadler.org/ - it is the Betins nest: viewtopic.php?f=97&t=973
