That's what I like about ospreys: Ivo doesn't come to Iiris and says: "My goodness, I've just met another osprey, he's really talking nonsense!"

We don't start a vital thinking process if someone feels attacked. That doesn't lead to a step forward...

I want to ring down the curtain on this discussion and come back to the ospreys on this nest now.

Do you all remember this event on 23.April?

We had a female osprey on the nest, with metal ring on right leg. Iiris was beating her down from the nest.
Urmas asked whether we have made any comparing pictures of the plumage of this metal-ringed female osprey and Irma.

He points out that it is unlikely to lose the metal ring, but possible to lose a plastic ring (material fatigue, odd happenings - see our youngster XJ Jaak last season). The date of the event would have been in the timeframe for returning females from migration.

I can only speak for myself, but I have never taken this thought into consideration, as I was focussed to see an Irma with ring U5 on the left leg.
And I didn´t expect that a one-time-visit and being beaten down by the new female should have been all fighting for her nest

Having a quick first look on the events of the following days, I saw no reports about more close fights on the nest, with a metal-ringed osprey involved.

Maybe we can find out more about the plumage and shed light on this?

That is certainly food for thought. I must admit that it did cross my mind very briefly when we first saw the ringed Osprey, because I remembered Jakk last year , but also dismissed the thoughts as fantasy on my part.

I am not an expert in observing plumage, but I anxiously await the thoughts of the forum.

I guess the photo of 23.04.19 is the only one we have of the RFR female (Right Foot Ringed)? We'd have to find a photo from Irma from the 2018 thread with the same posture to be able to compare every feather. I started already with a random range of pages but I did not find a suitable picture.

When it comes to the osprey that I remember, if only briefly, then personally I had little doubt that it was Irma. It's not just the plumage, it's the way I was so convinced.
Irma had won the battle for the nest all these past few years, but she's older (I suspect) and can therefore lose a fight.
From the period it would have been okay.

17:51 Ivo arrived with an headless fish for IIris. She left with him, Ivo goes on the eggs.

Ivo just brought Iiris a nice piece of fish, she took it, flew a big circle landed on the dead tree and is now enjoying her break, while Ivo takes duty on the eggs.

Irma seems to be darker at the breast and on his head than the incompletely ringed female Osprey of the April 23th, 2019

What I'd like to compare is the right side of the neck, the series of the three white feathers clearly visible on the 24.3.19 RFR female. Maybe this could serve as unique element.

13:02 First the current unringed female comes over from the dead tree, then Ivo lands on the nest, making his submissive gestures* and then a third osprey with metal ring on right leg lands. Current unringed female beats it off the nest.

Irma's necklace is very special. The 4/23 female's necklace and the feathers above the eyes do not match, the facial expressions are not the same, and the body size is relatively large ( Irma is very petite, the legs are not long... sorry Irma ).
I don't think the 4/23 female is Irma, and like annette said, Irma is tough and won't easily lose her nest.

No, unfortunately not, Rita.
Irma is tough and does not lose the nest so fast, right. We just do not know if she was sick, weak or injured.
At some point there will always be a stronger opponent.
Of course I do not know, like all of us. But my first call on the PC was when I saw this osprey: Irma is there ....
Despite the missing ring, I did not pay attention to it at all.
