10:55:53 A very good feeding. Karl II brought many small and medium-sized fish.
The small chick is on the left.

I saw on the YT chat that Olga wrote:
"Katie sneezes often.
At 10:37, Kati took the youngest chick by the head and pressed it to the ground.
This is a bad sign. She can kill this chick.
"

Here is the pic (10:37:19)

Although it was nothing bad, this time, I don't like to see it happen. Kati, PLEASE don't start!

We have seen it happen in previous years.
A combination of begging chicks and an empty crop makes Kati very nervous.
It seems to trigger this behaviour.

Karl II, please make sure that all 4 chicks are permanently extremely well fed, the next 5-6 days.

This is frightening...i thought parents act this way only when there isnt enough food for some period of time
I hope Kati will not "jump to conclusions" prematurely and based on single events

Thank you all for reports

:hi:
It was written in Russian on the YT chat, visit.
(I did not see this happen and scrolled back to make a screenshot of that moment.)

Кати чихает часто. В 10-37 Кати брала младшего птенца за голову и прижимала к земле. Это плохой знак. Она может этого птенца погубить.

I really hope the same, Crissy.
#4 is a healthy and strong chick.
And so far, there seems to be enough food.
Who knows what is happening in Kati's head? We can not read her thoughts.

I cross my fingers.
I think that in 5 to 6 days (around next Sunday evening) the youngest chick will be out of the "danger zone".

Yes, it may be a bad sign. :slap:
Jo and Urmas, thank you for the news about the gender of 2018 storklets. I've noticed that in the thread of Karl's family Karula is sometimes referred to as "he".

ah, thank you Anne :-)
and with translator i can understand russian, too ;)

the problem will not only be the amount of the food (a big factor of course) but e.g. also, whether one chicken will behave in another (e.g. weaker) way than the others. it's a the sum of such factors...
unfortunately the youngster sometimes don't struggle enough to get food or has an unlucky position and therefore the difference in strength to the others will increase. a cycle which should be broken...
*hope and keep my fingers crossed !

You are absolutely right, visit. The problem is that it is impossible for the youngest chick to catch up with the larger chicks within 5-6 days.
No matter how much it eats. No matter how brave it is.
They are all in a phase that they grow extremely fast, so the difference will continue to exist, this week.

It is difficult for us humans to understand (and "unacceptable" in our hearts), but often the 4th chick is just a 'spare' chick, in case something should go wrong with one of the 3 older ones.

Let's keep up the courage.

Yes, the difference will not disappear but must not increase.
It is difficult for us humans to understand (and unacceptable)
That's the nature and we should keep it in mind :-)

when i have some funny associations, i know, that are only my human associations ;-)

btw here is a video of the last feeding and the youngster was this time really active moving from the back to the front for getting some food :-))

...aah, i just read about Liz and balistar because i haven't seen them any more.

But you both stork-watching-parents:
Nobody of you wanted to insult or deliberately to provoke or to make the other one angry and therefore you left the forum – so take the same reason to hold together and come both back again !

if the stork parents would separate each time when they have a misunderstanding, we wouldn't be in the lucky position to watch young stork generations...!
- so we should be able simply to watch and write together, shouldn't we ?

No matter how true it is, we, as humans, will always cheer the weakest.
I heard some interesting info about dogs. There is about 900 million dog in the world, 80% of them are homeless, and only 6% of puppies live to adulthood. It's hard to believe that 94% of puppies are 'spares'...
