A stupid question:
do storks have a tongue? I never saw such in the pictures ... :puzzled:
I think they have to have one - how would it otherwise be possible to catch food into that long beak ...
I didn't find any explanation by googling ...

Thanks, Biker.
I never saw a tongue on an adult stork and I am wondering how on earth do they catch (soak?) the food if the tongue is only as short as in your picture on a chick ...
I have seen tongues on other birds - but their beaks are not as long as storks'.

Hello, everyone!

Many thanks for all the beautiful pictures and reporting, Liz.
Balistar, thank you too! :2thumbsup:

I've made some pics from this amazing feeding at 16:13.
I focused on our youngest chick.

16:13:45 "Oops, these are Dad's feet! Not the good direction..."
Image

16:13:48 "That was a bad start! How shall I reach the food now?"
Image

16:13:51 "Throwing myself between two siblings wasn't a good idea... Why are they so big?"

16:13:59 "Thanks, Dad, I'm ready now!"

18:37 Again a feeding. The youngest is on the right. A bigger storklet wasn't hungry.
His neck needed a support!

There was a feeding again, I looked at the time 19.04 on my screen time and saw #4 fighting tug of war with a sibling of the same frog - finally I think Karl II ate it back and none of the storklets got it. But before that I think all four ate well and all went to sleep (and to grow) quite soon after the meal

A feeding, I looked later the time 20.44 on my screen time. All got fed, there was again a tug of war between two chicks of a frog, but I think Kati ate it back as none of the chicks managed to swallow it.
