Today is the day for rabbits. Both the females in Denmark and Germany received a rabbit as a gift :D

Both owlets grow fast. At the beginning the difference between them was very large, the older owlet was twice as big as the younger one. Now the difference has decreased a bit.
Yesterday the chicks were ringed.

Today I noticed that behind the nest is a fence made of metal mesh, certainly to protect the eggs/chicks from predators (foxes)

Ringing video by DOF
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkeFhsawSOc
For a few days after the ringing, parents rarely showed up in the nest with prey for owlets, and they had to fight for food.

Now the situation has normalized and parents visit the nest several times a day.

Mom brought a bird and fed the owlets. They grow fast and it's a pity they will fly away soon

Owlets usually spend days out of the nest. They go along the wall and jump up.

Sometimes, when mom brings food only one arrives.

Last night mom brought a hedgehog for owlets and flew away. But they didn't know how to deal with this barbed food item

Today the camera has stopped at 16:39. I hope it will be back soon, as the owlets still visit the nest.
The hedgehog has not been eaten yet, but the owets are still trying to do it.

When mom arrived to help them , owlets were away.

Here's something rather special from explore.org - a livestream from a Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) nest in Barrow, Alaska.

explore.org wrote:The [S]nowy [O]wl nest is located in Barrow, Alaska and is part of the Owl Research Institute’s long-term study on Snowy Owl and Brown Lemming Breeding Ecology (now entering the 23rd year). With 24 hours of sunlight in the [A]rctic this time of year, you can tune in any time day or night to watch the nest!
The video quality is only so-so, while there's no audio at all. And anyone who finds LK's Nightjar cam slow going will not be much happier here. But just like with that cam, this is a rare opportunity to observe a really unusual and wonderful bird.

Here's a clip of a food delivery (male to female) from about 10 hours ago - the cam also has no timestamp, unfortunately. :whistling:

Thank you for the hint, yitmoth
I check the site ( https://www.owlresearchinstitute.org/ ) and FB ( https://www.facebook.com/owlresearchinstitute/ ) of the Owl Research Institute from time to time, but I missed this information.
In 2014 there was also a live feed from Barrow. You could watch the Snowy Owl nest and the founder and lead researcher of ORI, Denver Holt conducting the research.

Today, the camera stopped again at 13:15.
It is a pity, because the owlets are very funny to watch, especially when at the same time both of them turn their heads in one direction.

Parents often visit the nest and the owlets have enough food.

Male delivers a lemming

Female leaves the nest with a lemming to eat it outside. So I think the eggs didn't hatch yet.

It does not seem that any egg is hatched so far.

The male has a bloody stain under the beak. Is he injured?

Not sure since when, but the Snowy Owl cam has audio now (mostly wind, of course) and the video quality seems better, too.

Image

Still not much going on there, apart from lots of preening. But about 3 hours before this post, the female left the nest for a few minutes.

Image

I just scanned the last 12 hours and couldn't find the male at all.

It is difficult to find a food delivery on the rewind, the male's visit usually lasts shortly (10-30 seconds). Today I saw a delivery about 8 hours ago, the male seems to be ok.

Mom delivers food (unfortunately, the microphone broke down)

I would like to summarize the breeding season in this nest, but it is not easy, as the camera stopped streaming in mid-April :puzzled:
This is my last picture from April 17, when the owlets were still small.

From update on FB, it appears that all 4 owlets sucessfully fledged from the nest box on April 29 and were ringed https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php? ... &__tn__=-R

It was the next successful breeding season, all three owlets dispersed on the edge of the desert, but from time to time they sit together on trees around the school or on the roof.
Image

That's why both cameras are still streaming

The picture shows how close to the nest in the school's lobby is the tree visited by them.

Both owlets are doing great and every day, especially in the morning, you can see them in the nest.

However, afternoons and nights they spend outside the nest, making only short visits under the eye of the camera.
The parents are constantly delivering them food, and last night mom was feeding one owlet (I think that the younger one)
