https://www.ospreys.org.uk/thursday-updates/It’s been a miserable week all around Rutland water, and we’ve been watching Maya and her brood closely to make sure they’re managing ok in this weather. Osprey chicks are sturdy birds however, and seem to be growing well still despite all the wet weather and wind.
This morning, 33 brought back a large fish to the nest and this was welcomed by a very eager Maya and the chicks, whom she fed for almost an hour! As per usual, the three eldest siblings rushed in to get their fill, and then lay down with full crops, leaving the fourth chick complete access to the food source, and got a good full meal.
Hopefully the weather will improve over the weekend!

Early this morning Lloyd our field officer and other staff members set out for the Manton Bay nest. The mission was to ring our fantastic four! All chicks were adorned with a grey BTO ring, and a blue coloured ring.
We now have the latest Osprey additions: 054, 055, 056 and 057! Of the four chicks, two are female (now with ring 054 and 057) and two males (ring 055 and 056). 054 being the first to hatch and 057 being the fourth chick to hatch.

Unfortunate update about our male 056, who seems to be suffering from an injury. We noticed that he returned to the nest this morning at about 5.20AM with a small amount of blood on his throat. He has, however, fed very frequently this morning, both independently and with Maya feeding him. He seems to struggle to swallow ocassionally and we think this could be either a fish bone which has become lodged/scratched on the way down. We will be monitoring him closely today and will see how he goes.

More positive news following 056's injury yesterday. he is eating well and the blood on his throat seems to be dry, he appears not to have washed at all since yesterday! Don't follow the Osprey hygiene routine!

https://www.ospreys.org.uk/osprey-blog/The food begging from all four fledglings continues, when 33 brings in fish, there are tussles between the youngsters. Yesterday 056 and 057 were scrapping over a large trout.

Our birds have flown!
33 and Maya were last seen on monday at Manton Bay, with no sightings of the pair since.
We believe that they are on migration.
A cormorant has taken up residency on the nest for now...
