Dyfi Osprey Project - Yesterday at 10:14 AM ·

Hesgyn's Phantom Calls

We've never seen this before...

Hesgyn has learned how to do a fantastic adult alarm call.
Thing is, he uses it at will, randomly, with absolutely no danger around.

So every time he throws out one of these alarm calls, his brother and sister immediately hit the deck as their evolutionary programming tells them to - an anti-predator strategy to keep still and blend into the camouflage of the nest.

Very naughty, Hesgyn!

Some family portraits, before the osprets start fledging and nest gatherings become more rare.

Image

Probably no fledges today, though, it's raining again.

PS Peris (KA2) fledged on 7/18 at 11:11 nest time. Read more here.

Peris fledged, today. July 18, 2019, 11:11am
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

16:52 Berthyn has fledged!

She's out of sight but safe, sat above the live-stream camera.

Berthyn is 54.8 days old, the second oldest Dyfi chick (n21) to fledge, Leri being the oldest in 2011 (57.3 days)

Well, Hesgyn finally fledged shortly before noon local time (11:51, to be exact). But unfortunately just then the cam was zoomed in on... nothing in particular. So nobody actually saw it -- apart from people in the visitor's center, I suppose. :slap:

Hopefully they'll have captured something on the other cameras so they can put together a fledge video.

Here he is on the cam pole - you can just make out the number 3 on his ring.

Great news yitmoth:

The good winds pulled little adventurer KA 3 up into 2nd floor on cam pole where he startet his round over the marsh
