UP didn't get it from UM ? It really looked like UM had given it to UP. I have to watch again....in slow mo. EDIT: you are right, Kitarr, after watching again in slow mo, i saw UP picking up a little piece from ground at 07:55:51, then 07:55:55 UM with a piece of fish in beak turns his head towards UP, a sec. later UP is seen to open a close beak like swallowing something. So, it only looked like it had been recieving that bite from UM.

Thanks Kitarr, for correcting.
Then, dear osprey-friends, i'm very sorry for the "not sensation"

I never have seen before: an ospret feeds its sibling !!
Unfortunately i can't make videos, it would be worth to see in video.
07:55 UM gives a bite to UP !! :D

Hi balistar,

it looks as if UP took a morsel from the ground and UM sees it dangling on UP´s beak and has a closer look at it, but doesn´t give away his own morsel.

But nice anyway :D

Ivo flies in with a whole medium size fish, UN seems to catch it, but has difficulties to keep it, the fish is of a jumping sort ... Unluckily UN starts to tear it from the tail part - a professional would start of the head ...

This is probably the first time for UN to get acquainted with a living fish .. it takes time to "tame" the prey  "Mum, come to help!"

UN gives up and the fish lies in the middle of the nest - no one seems to will taking over it

I think UN found some left overs and swallowed some spaghetti, but still the poor fish lies in the middle of the nest and none of the osprets needs it ...

For a second one parent flew over the nest without stopping but alarming, the chicks get flat :puzzled:

OFF TOPIC - there will be ringing in a North Finnish osprey nest of two chicks from at 16:00, changing still pictures: http://saaksikamera.opiferum.com/Paltamonkamera/

Iiris in with a headless fish, osprets still lying flat and Iiris only observing the surroundings staying still for a long time ... And the fish delivered by Ivo is still under the chicks unopened ...

15:56
Iiris finally starts feeding of her fish tail, one ospret (UN) attends and gets the whole fish tail for herself

UM got finally the whole fish opened and is enjoying a fresh meal by himself, meanwhile UN is enjoying by herself the fish tail from Iiris. UM is really ahead his siblings in development ...

UP was out of both feedings and got nothing this time

The ringermen left two fat fish on the nest as a thank for their work and hopefully to call the parents soon back to the nest. After some 20 minutes after ringers' departure one of the parents returned to the nest and took one of the present fishes and flew off :D These parents should be used to the ringers' visits, they have experienced it many years

Iiris arrives, a second later also Ivo with a headless fish, Ivo leaves the fish on the nest and flies off. One of the osprets takes over the headless fish, looks like UP this time  Also Iiris flies off, as the situation is under control without any of the parents  UP deserves this prey, as she was out of two previous fish deliveries

I wonder if I see right: there is still a more or less whole fish left on the nest floor - quite in the middle, under UP's tail? :puzzled: That would mean that the fish UM was tearing before, was not the one Ivo delivered whole but another one, so I would have missed one delivery

at ab 17:33
UP seems to have left the fish she ate a moment ago - now it looks to me that there are TWO fish crops lying on the nest floor on the left side :puzzled: UN seems to take over one of them, his siblings wing exercise. And it rains.

At 15:10 Iiris came with half a fish and started feeding but she flew away at 15:15 (I think because of a small airplane)
Maybe this was the same fish from 15:45?

Ivo delivered a whole fish at ab 15:16 and that fish lied a long time almost untouched, as UN, who caught the fish first couldn't open it. I guess UM took and opened it some time after 15:45. Before it also Iiris arrived with a smaller fish tail, fed of it even if the whole fish lied on the nest floor.

18:52-18:53
Iiris flew in with something to eat - all osprets are more or less interested

19:13
Iiris left quickly and alarming shortly. UP (?) stays standing while the siblings lie flat

around 20:00
UP has a fish tail to work with - no idea who delivered or when ... The siblings lie relaxed beside her watching.

A stick appeared to stop her, the fish tail went under the big stick and UP lost her interest in eating, when it became so difficult

The fish tail lies there now under another chick's cheek

off topic: I'm back here, was out to have a look at "our" white storklets near where i live.
One of the two storklets fledged, i saw it on the roof of the neighbour house, the other is still on the nest, waiting until his time comes :innocent:

Something else, i have observed, and i need your help to identify what it was :rotf:
but first i'd like to insert 6 pictures.....

19:45 on the right a bird came out of the forest flying to the right, the ospret on the right noticed it. I just saw something white and first thought on a WTE, someone had mentioned a few days ago

then i thought, no, it's too small for a WTE

The ospret on the right was tracking the bird and
a few seconds later crows could be heard.

19:45 the ospret on the right was looking at someone and moved its head (like owls do, when they estimate the distances)
Image

seconds later the bird flew by on the right
Image

i "think" (i'm not sure) it was a jay, who maybe imitated the crows' voices ????
