Anyway, I do have great trust in your optimism. It has been justified on all occasions I have seen.
they sang this morning at 4:52.

maybe no-one just haven't heard them, and i haven't found the voices. this call i found by accident.
this is the same ancient problem as "is there a sound of crash if a tree falls in the forest and no-one is listening?"

8:52 i think i hear v e r y distant fish song.... yes, it is fish song.

the bird could be a raven, but it was so far that it is difficult to see what bird it was.
Thank you for the video, Ame. The bird's size was comparable to that of Milda when she flew in the sky above the forrest at 22:11 for the delivery at night, so I do not think it could have been as small a bird as a raven.

it is very difficult to estimate the actual distance of birds who are far for to estimate their sizes.
almost the only way is to look at the frequency of their wing beat. big birds like eagles wave their wings in slow pace while smaller birds flap their wings much faster. also the speed with which they fly across the camera view gives some clue of their distance (if they fly across the scene along a path which is more or less perpendicular to the line of sight.) if the bird is near it will pass by quickly. if a bird is far it will take several seconds before it flies across the field of view.

i can't remember well this particular bird but i have the faint memory that it's wing beat was faster than an eagle's. but, as i wrote, it is impossible to know what bird it was.

11:14 - 11:17 an eaglet (maybe 2) was crying far (and the wind was hard).

Good morning all! Thanks for messages!
Ajeta wrote: July 22nd, 2019, 6:50 am Your question started with "Really". That sounded as if you have doubts that it could be just "instinct".
...
Birds have some rudiments of reason. I read about researches on this subject. To be able to work with quantity, let and scanty (to 6), unless it is not mind?
The actions of the corvids are quite reasonable.
But how to separate instincts from reasonable actions, I do not know.
The amazing calculations the brain does at subconscious level I would probably not count as "thinking". This does not make them less amazing at all.
When I wrote about subconscious calculations, I responded to this message.

While flying in she could see where Mika was aiming to go out and adjust. No thinking, just instinctive acting, like you once wrote about your cat knowing the exact amount of strength for the distance she wants to jump. Predators need the ability to adjust their movement within seconds and less to that of their prey.
...
Better I would quote but there was no time. On phone it long.

We are predators too, to some extent and too we are able to do it.

aha, he was a young wood pigeon. no wonder that he wasn't a Meistersinger yet.

21:32 he flew away.

the sound is still off-set. :slap:
At 21:23 the pigeon flew by at the left on spruce on the right. On a fir-tree there was one more pigeon. One pigeon flew to the left. The second pigeon flied to a nest at 21:27.

You learned to distinguish eaglets subconsciously.
Through some time you will also "know" what size the bird flies and is how far.
This bird really was small flew closer than Milda.
It is necessary to look many hours to begin to feel it. I precisely know it on myself.

I look and I listen to everything if I have a laptop.
From phone not always it turns out. (20 hours a day cannot be looked at a usual speed. I look at speeds х2. But in phone it is impossible to change speed.) Yesterday I missed with 18.10 until 20.25, for example.
In previous days, there really were no songs.

At 4:34 the first shout of an eaglet.

i made a picture of his tail.
Image

12:22:14 the stream stopped
12:29:30 (about) it restarted and Miks had vanished.

i hope that the sound is fixed now, because i guess that fixing it was the reason for the cut. what a moment Mr B happened to choose. :slap:

the stream is still a bit stop&go but that probably my problem at this end.

About Raimis's "absence":

What we see during last week, is very little food, almost nothing.

I suppose they have a different place, where they can eat and sleep.

Previous year parents were in front of nest and it was easier to follow them there, this year they are hidden on right side somewhere.
We cannot see them flying with parents :slap:

not seeing food on the nest does not mean that the eaglets had no or little food.

it came to my mind (and i also wrote about this in the YT chat) that the eaglets have become so fierce during the last week that it take special bravery to meet them. maybe Raimis is not brave enough to come to the nest and face the eaglets here.
Milda is braver and she still comes to the nest to bring food. i'm sure that Raimis finds many safer places in the forest to deliver food. if it is a new place every time he has the advantage of surprise and has more time to escape.

if i remember right we didn't see Sartas many times during the summer 2014 after the eaglets had grown bigger. it was always Lubana who brought food to the nest. Sartas was a very small and slim male while Lubana was a Very Big Girl, almost like our Milda. the contrast between Lubana and Sartas was striking.

i think there was a chiffchaff together with a nuthatch. the nuthatch searched the nest and sang into the microphone under the nest.
