To be honest, I would have liked to see that the wound is much better than it was. The thermals help him a lot, that's very good. But there will also be sections where he has to make many wing movements.
Hopefully he's traveling slowly to the south.

...No, we don’t know the gender of the storklets. I understood that Urmas took DNA samples when he did the ringing and that the tests take months to complete... I think we are still waiting. Anyone know for sure?

That's right. The genetic material is sent to Berlin. We are not that fast. You just have to see how long we need to build an airport

That is a reassuring message.

The entire text on birdmap says:
"ARU. Juvenile Black Stork from webcam nest. Started its first migration in ??.??.2019, after ?? days as second sibling in nest. Transmitter installed in 12.07.2019. Aru did get some slight injury probably doing flight exercises in the woods, but that did not affect on flight abilities. All food brought by male was eaten by Aru after Oru left for migration and that was a bit too much for one juvenile Black Stork. But enough food enables better start for migration probably."



Aru started her/his first migration on 17.08.2019 in the morning, 93 days old.
He/she stayed on the nest for 25 days, after fledging (on July 23).
Aru had sustained an injury to the left wing, on 06.08.2019, 11 days before starting her/his migration.
Aru has been 7 days alone on the nest, after Oru's departure.

Oru started his first migration on 10.08.2019, age 86 days.
After fledging (on July 22), he stayed on the nest for 19 days.

Karl II was last seen on the nest on 15.08.2019

In winter 2018-early spring 2019, when the nest was also empty and only waiting for storks, these august moments seemed so far away...
We could not have foreseen that the season in front of the camera would be so intense from the very beginning, when Karl did not arrive ... and until the last moment, when the chick flew from the nest with a not quite healed wing... now all our attention is focused on the flight map, only by it we can judge whether the chicks are healthy... and these experiences will be until the spring of 2020... and later.... True, again, it seems so far away is the future...

All you kind and bright on long hours, months, and further years of observations!
A pleasant meetings with nice people is great.
