Here Kati is in front, Karl behind
This bird is not like Kati but rather more like Karl II. This is not a positive ID, yet. :puzzled:

And this is Kati:

This is 3x Kati.
The marked part is not well defined. And not dark. It looks a bit messy, if I may say so...

Here we see Karl II on the left, and Kati on the right

Hello everyone,

so great that the cam is finally online! :D Many thanks, Urmas and friends!
And already a stork at nest! :loveshower:

After reading your discussion about the who is who, I agree, that it is for sure not Kati at nest. With Kati the black area around her eyes was never clearly defined. It was always blurred.

Above it's Annes picture from todays Black Stork.
Here is a picture from Karl II from last year, 03.04.2019.
This made me think that the stork from today can well be Karl II.

:rotf: You're absolutely right!

Indeed here Karl II looks quite different than todays stork. But I have seen several times that the red area around the eyes of one and the same stork does not always look the same. It changes, can be bigger or smaller.
I hope that in time we will find out, if it's "our" Karl II.

Pictures from todays Black Stork. It's a bit of a pity that nobody saw his arrival, - his very first landing at nest. I wonder how many days he's been here.

Maybe compairing their legs can help?

In 2019, Liz made this pic:
Legs in comparison.

(Female = Kati. Male = Karl II)

These are the legs of today's BS.

Hmm, not very useful I guess.
I was hoping that the dark spots pattern might give some clues.
This screenshot is not sharp enough.

Yes.
And it also depends on the position of the head and on the light.

Anne
Don't you think that the dark spots change every year? :puzzled:

I don't know, Michi. :puzzled:
But Urmas once told us that the legs can help identify Black Storks. :D

Karl II is picture by Anne. (he lower picture. Upstairs is today's stork) The beak shape is different.
Anne, I just don't find a picture that is really helpful. You may find a better pictures.
Image

EDIT: I would also say let's wait for him to come back. Then we also know whether we are talking about a male or a female stork :D
Let's see if he sings.

I marked it. That would be a proof. We have to wait for daylight. Then we see if he has this light gap. The shape of the beak is unchangeable
