I was hoping for a second that it could be our Karula. :D
But no, no rings, no transmitter...
Anne :hi:

Exactly today I had such a thought ...
My God, if our Karula came to * its * nest ... stupid, I know

It's not stupid, Sova. It's love. :D

It would be really great to see how Karula looks now, after such a long time.

Anne  , Karl did not calm down  the stranger was all time near the nest. he sneezed often. Karl shows that it is his nest. (laying down)
15:46 Karl starts an attack. After a fight (you can hear it) , Karl came back into the nest and flew away again. He chased the intruder out of his territory :2thumbsup:

A few pictures - the Intruder

The Intruder flew off after a split second, stay in the nest

Thank you, Liz

OMG, I didn't hear that fight! :slap:
Which is normal because I turned off the sound. My cat gets nervous from stork calls and 'attacks' my screen to catch them.

I will watch your video as soon as it is 'processed'.

Today I had a day where I could always hear what was happening.
And then I'm gone and something happens. :puzzled:
But thanks to the many pictures and videos, I can read and look at everything. :D
Thanks to all

Exactly ... at least togetherness and not alone :loveshower: and no children, as possibly starved children
Liz01 wrote: May 4th, 2020, 3:41 pm That would be too late for this region. I have read in the Latvian forum that the parents have leave the nest and chicks. They have starved to death.
It is simply too late for successful breeding. Karl und his Lady should have a nice summer, together. Just like last year Kaupo & Gaja. It was very interesting to see that there is actually a bond, even without a chick. :D :D

In 2015, I was not yet a member of this forum.
But I did have a cat then. She developed pancreatic cancer and had to be euthanized a few years ago. She was only eight years old. I still miss her.

I now have a 6,5 month old kitten. She was found outside in november last year and was only 4 weeks old (and weighed 320 grams) when I took her in.

Bye bye, Liz.

Oh dear! Anne, I have confused you with Trine  . It was her cat that panicked when Ozols sang.
I'm not focused anymore at the moment. It is my last night in Berlin ... tomorrow it will be horrible. I can't say goodbye to my friends and colleagues. Corona makes it impossible. And I leave behind a lot of birds and a few squirrels, which I supported for many years during winter and the breeding season. It is very hard for me. A good source of food is then gone for them.

Thank you Anne7 and Liz01 and others for the photos and videos.
Such drama we watch on this nest, even without storklets! I am surprised there is so much action at this nest by both male and female lone B.S. at this location, and also while there are not enough female B.S. for every male. How do they even find the nests? I am fascinated by the life of these B.S. and want to read and learn more about what I see on the cam.

the photo of Karl landing with the wide wingspread was breathtaking - such a beautiful creature. I also notice that when he is singing we can see much of his white fluffy feathers under his black tail feathers - I'd never noticed that on any of the B.S. before - how much they are fluffy and in the shape of a sort of bustle (the Victorian structure at the back of a female's long gown to make it poof out). It had its own shape and stood out more, perhaps because he was bending over to sing.

When you heard the attack was it the faint sound of the clacking beaks? I heard some of the clatter a B.S. makes with the beak during that time Karl left to chase the other stork. Otherwise, can you tell us what it sounds like if not the beak sounds?

I was watching the female's brown - or shall I say Tan - color when she was on the nest preening and she would walk away from Karl, often towards the camera. As she came closer to the camera it seemed to me that the feathers were actually this tan color, and not stained or dirty. I think dirt/stain has more observable particles that go between the the feathery parts, and that area seemed to me to be free of anything but feathers. Could the color be an unusual change in the genes? But more experienced observers can probably tell for sure.
