What a drama - with a hopefully happy end ... I've had 2 days no time to follow the cam and the forum and read it just now... Thanks to all of you for the pictueres, videos and  reports!

17:11 Iiris flies in with half a fish for Ivo :D Darling, here's a hearty meal for you.
But Ivo shows no interest and goes fishing, so Iiris settles down on the eggs.

Ivo takes care of the eggs. It seems he is concerned that everything is ok and no more egg is missing. Iiris can be very proud having such a wise and caring father for her chicks.

I was in a hurry for my work and accidentally deleted the sound. I think someone attacked the nest at night (22:35)?

At 05:32:25 Ivo (finally!) moved the stray egg back into the nest bowl. Hopefully not too late for viability, though I kinda doubt it
Wow, such good news! Thank you, everyone, for your reports. Thank you, Ivo! :D

It seems, all might not be lost regarding the third egg. Some years ago egg of a white tailed eagle was left uncovered for almost two hours in freezing temperatures, yet a healthy eaglet hatched. Past observations have shown that eggs are quite rigid. Let's hope for the best!

Thank you for the hint and video, ExpertOfNothing  :2thumbsup: , I scrolled the stream back to see it in live, these were terrible attacks until 22:39, the feathers were flying  , Iiris didn't call alarm, she was only "croaking" and defending the nest :slap:. It was too dark to see the attacker but it had big wings, may be an eagle owl :puzzled:

Ivo was very long on the eggs; in the meanwhile, apparently, Iiris was busy fishing for herself a nice supper 8-)

.. Until at 22:33:17 there is a bang (landing?) on the cam stand and then repeated noises on it.
It is an owl of some sort

22:33:56 she attacks Iiris (top right)

Image

22:34:01 an owl calling two times

22:34:38 second attack

22:35:22 owl swooshes over Iiris again; Iris croaking

Image

22:36:04 fourth attack

22:36:16 again; owl calls out

22:36:33 another attack

Image

22:36:44 another
22:36:52 one more attack; Iiris quacking
22:37:06 Iiris quacking repeatedly
22:37:25 another attack; feathers flying in the air
22:37:42 another attack; owl calls out; Iiris all fluffed up
22:37:56 yet another attack..
22:38:12 one more.. owl calling
22:38 both Iiris and owl are "talking".
22:38:51 owl hits again; Iiris is increasingly agitated, so it seems; owl is calling out, too.
22:39 only owl is talking; then finally all calms down..

After a night of attacks, todays morning is calm and Ivo just came to Iiris. He tiptoed around Iiris and since she made no effort to rise Ivo flew into the woods. I rewinded the video to see what happend at night and saw the dark shadow over the nest. Hopefully no further attacks will come.

Why would an owl attack an adult osprey? Are adult osprey prey? Or something else?

I saw in other nests how an owl or an eagle owl is pushing parents out of the nest and eating eggs or chicks

Hello everyone :hi:

I have never spoken but I have been following this nest and this forum since 2016.

Reviewing the images from last night, I have seen that at 23:11:33 and 23:12:38 there were other attacks again :slap:

ExpertOfNothing and and KiraOrt, thank you for your observation of the attacks on Iiris.
Some days ago the mishap of one of the eggs and now these terrible attacks on Iiris. The first was solved by Ivo, in the other Iiris was courageous - they both are great and deserve each other and our kudos.

You have the movie, I have the sound!

I looked at it again and just like Sunshine and Hellem I would say the main attacks were from 22:33 - 22:39.
I recorded the sound, if there were longer pauses, I cut that away. So those 3 minutes are about 4-5 minutes in real time.
Between 1:50 and 2:20 you can hear Iiris well.

The freeze image is one of those attacks.

Iiris seems to be just fine today  Most likely, an owl cannot do much to an adult osprey - at least, a smaller owl like the one that came last night. Yet, ospreys and owls are clearly not on friendly terms; they fight for the nests and territory.

Luckily, it seems that it was not the Eagle owl (Bubo Bubo), largest of Estonia's owls.

Here one can read about a great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) snatching osprey chicks during the night attacks in Hog Island in United States (this owl species is not found in EST):
