15:01 A short visit from a rather large sparrowhawk
I wasn't entirely sure if it was a large female sparrowhawk, or a small male goshawk, but these legs look like sparrowhawk legs to me
https://i.imgur.com/Bqn30Qn.jpg
Edit: at 15:40 one of them started singing in the microphone :rotf:
Floppy Fish thank you

For me it also looks like sparrow hawk ... the middle toe is very long (Sorry, I don't know how to insert the time into an enlarged pic :puzzled: )
Image

The middle toe is one of the differences between Hawk and Goshawk ... I've learned a bit in the meantime :D

19:48 and land on cam stand (is not to see)
19:50 Osprey maybe flies off :puzzled:
19:59 Teo lands ... it seems Vita is on cam stand
Image

20:01 He flies on cam, it seems a short meeting and he flies off
20:05 Soft chirps from Vita, Teo comes with stick
Image

20:06 Teo flies off
20:13 Vita calls
20:14 Waiting for fish
and Teo comes with hay ... Vita is not amused about it
Image

20:15 She jumps back on cam
20:17 Teo visits Vita on cam and flies off

21:33 Feathers from Vita to see

21:34 Vita flies off
21:45 Short single Osprey call not far away, maybe Vita is still waiting for fish :whistling:

You all are wonderful! Learning with you is fun! :2thumbsup:
IceAge, something is wrong with yesterday's order. Not with my screenshots and records. Unfortunately, my tablet no longer maintains an internet connection. Unfortunately I have to try to get a new device. dumb it ... . For this post alone, I have to constantly restart and save. :bash:
The toes are actually the falcon's weapon. I already wrote it about robbing our chick. Hawks burrow their toes deep into the prey. The prey is often paralyzed, if not already dead, by the impact of the falcon. The piercing damages internal organs so that the animal has no chance. I still haven't seen the video of the robbery. I can not. :/ But the thumbnail shows that the female hawk's toes reach deep into the chick's body. Well, small or hawk ... I've read that hawks and goshawks live well in the neighborhood. We both can't get rid of it. The WTE could decimate the hawk .... But the WTE is also a predator of Ospreys or their brood. Everything exciting. But every animal has its right to life. :innocent:

Googel translation has had real quirks for some time. Can you understand me? And I would like to add that Teo and Vita were not present until noon.
Aks if everything wasn't difficult enough ...

Thank you all! Even if I'm a bit blocked right now ... I keep trying. :innocent:

Polly sadly I'm not sure if I understand you right ... a Falcon has the same long middle toe like a Sparrowhawk ...right?

I hope you can somehow fix the problem, keep your fingers crossed

22:21 A bird with something in it's claw comes and flies over the nest ... Teo?
Image

23:07 There it lands, greens, fish and Teo  ... a bit too late for Vita.

It seems Teo has eaten in the meantime

23:08 Teo flies off with all

To me it looked like a mishap on Google Translate's end. Google probably decided randomly on its own that "Habicht" meant "falcon" rather than (gos)hawk in half of the sentences. It does that kind of thing a lot. I feel like it's getting worse recently too... I think Polly actually meant claws/talons instead of toes too. More specifically, the strong claws of a goshawk, rather than the long toes of a sparrowhawk. (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!)

Fortunately it's not as bad as with Finnish where kanahaukka (Finnish for goshawk) gets translated as "henhouse", "chicken-trout", "chickenpox" or "chickpea". Or in Latvian where GT thinks Sīlis (jay) (Garrulus glandarius) are flying jellyfishes! :headroll:

Floppy Fish, that can be. Sometimes the translator is a disaster

Vita is on cam stand and Sparrowhawks are around. One of them already annoyed Teo when he flew in. At one point there are 2 Hawks to see. With all the "attacks", there was never a warning call or defense response by Vita and Teo. It actually shows that both are not afraid of Sparrowhaws ... but maybe I'm not right.

08:37 Halfeaten fish for Vita

IceAge wrote: July 23rd, 2020, 11:42 am 14:24 Vita comes with a stick
That was funny ... Vita was on cam stand and asks Teo for fish the whole time, but Teo don't want. Suddenly Vita jumps down in a tree and comes back with a stick :rotf: ... a failed jump or to get a stick. When Vita is angry, she usually moves the sticks

:hi:

IceAge, thank you!

It seems a Sparrowhawk frightens him at that time

14:08 he calls and after some seconds it sounds like a honking car
14:09 Teo flies off, the honking car comes closer
14:16 Car is still honking

:hi: everyone

Thanks IceAge and Shanta !

Yesterday, July 25th, i saw neither Teo nor Vita, nor any hawk.

12.06 today this was the only little "flying visitor" i could catch
Image

maybe it was attracted to the growing sorrel :D
is it sorrel (rumex acetosa) ??

- as someone wrote on the Estonian Osprey thread, a dragonfly is a good sign,
so i'll hope for the future of this nest

I think the growing flower in the nest is some species of Verbascum. They're characterized by a big torch-like stem growing in the middle.

This one has a branched stem, so it might be Verbascum phlomoides

It's known in English as the orange mullein. Some languages call it the emperor's torch.

Edit: The way the plant is growing now....it doesn't seem like it's any kind of Verbascum at all. I have no clue what it is now... :puzzled:

14:40 A large bird flies from behind the camera to the guard tree, then flies away as a heavy vehicle (helicopter?) passes by. The wings and belly look like those of an osprey. It also has prominent white marks on the tail and the end of the wings.
Image

I think it's Vita. I guess we should thank Teo for making it easier to distinguish her.

13:58 A raven visits and immediately throws up some sort of pellet onto the nest. It looks like a seed from a peach or plum.
Image

The raven stays for an extended amount of time and makes itself at home.

 Everyone.
I haven’t been on this forum since before the loss of the precious chick.
Teo, was so nice to watch this season, he finally had a chick to nurture, and we know and love how he feeds and cares for his offspring. There was so much to be happy about. Vita, with her first chick, and one of the best male Ospreys, for her mate.
We can’t change nature, but I truly hope that next season, Teo and Vita, get a break and have chicks that fledge! :loveshower:
