I really wish he had found the right direction - me too
I still think about this (probably also lost) white stork - flew away? wintered here successfully? what is its fate?
Nice picture. It is a young stork. But the picture was captured in August 2015. If it hadn't been so long ago, the restaurant owners might have remembered his fate ....

PL - 5749 Dobrzany - hatched in 2020
MAURITANIA - Inchiri Region. The stork continues on its way south. It flew along the Atlantic coast, we have only a very short time part. Its last night location is north of Nouakchott (Nouakchott is the capital and largest city of Mauritania. It is one of the largest cities in the Sahel. The city also serves as the administrative and economic center of Mauritania - wiki). I think the second update will be in the afternoon.
The stork seems to be heading to Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary (about 300 km away), where there are two more Polish black storks (CNIG28 Turek, hatched in 2020, and CNIG14, hatched in 2019, which is already spending its second winter here).

PURPLE

Nouadhibou is the second largest city in Mauritania. It’s a major fishing centre and large industrial port.
A key economic centre, it’s home to roughly 90,000 people. Before independence, the town was called Port Etienne by the French colonists after the first boat which arrived here, the Tienne. Since independence in 1960, it has been called Nouadhibou, which means Place of the Jackal. Many jackals used to come and drink water in a well.
