Re: Black Stork nest in Portugal
They taught to fly, at least one of them, he returned in the nest right now. Others are flapping their wings very actively.

Hi all
Very nice pics from an adult griffon vulture
On the right side, on that "whiter" platform (you only see it on the 2 last pics, over the back of the GV) a young griffon vulture is doing training for the first flight. You can see it specially in the morning and end of the afternoon.
At this hour there are more than 40 degrees...

Thank you very much. Very interesting information.
So there is no refreshment at the coast/beach.

The nest is on the inland of Portugal. So it is always very warm or very cold

He didn't show up this morning. Maybe he did his first flight very early in the morning (before 6:50 cam time).
We saw a young GV on the left bank of the river thos morning but it's not possible to know if it is this one

Yes you are right
It's a young one, maybe the one from the nest above that is gaining courage to return "home".
You can see that is a young one because the beak is much darker and the head much more white

I believe so. GV do that many times, even adults.
He must be tired, there is too much warm there and a strong wind. And his nest is too high

There are not so many meters between his position and the water. I hope enough for the restart.garina do mar wrote:I believe so. GV do that many times, even adults.

Yes. Still in the corner of the platform. The platform is between 20 to 25 meters above the water. His nest is more than 20 meters above this platform.

BTW I think 40° is not normal temperature for inland Portugal, esp. beside a big river ? much too high. No wonder the bird is so exhausted, especially if its his first flight. Eh Garina ? what do you think ?
