Re: Goshawk nest in Riga 2020 - 2021
20:03:59 H21 cranks the neck.
She remains very attentive even further on.
20:07:48 H21 leaves the nest quickly.
She flies off-road and it sounds a bit as if she also practices the begging calls outside of the nest.
Well, 2 or 3 days ago I heard the same thing. Only more clearly than today. I missed reporting.
29:08:53 H44 flutters into the nest ... at the same time H21 calls in the area.
He looks worn out.
I am really scared.
Yes, he's more tender compared to H21 and it doesn't mean that he's not tough and strong. (He is an extremely subtle, persevering and combative Terzel!) But I have to get used to the warmth look. I think the animals also have to adapt to the sudden warm temperatures.

H21 sounds excited.
It may be the crows again (to be heard)
21:00:00 H44 looks down and we can track it - it's H21.
It can be seen below and shortly afterwards at the level of the nest. It ends up in the tree.
21:00:59 'Gjak' from H21 ... she approaches the nest over the upper branch.
It's almost one - H21 jumps into the nest and H44 leaves it.
21:01:38 exactly.
I think that was the last change.
21:25:36 H44 returns to the nest again.
H21 initially seems to accept the offer, but does not leave the nest in the end.
21:28:02 H44 says goodbye into the night - now really.
Sleep well!

04:37:25 H21 gets up, stretches and lets the night out of bed.
04:37:47 she leaves the nest. How often over the side branch. H21 touches him before she flies on.
04:38:51 H44 is there and confirms his arrival at the nest.
He manages a short nap ...
05:10:54 H21 makes her first attempt to land on the lower floor. The second one gets better, albeit a little crooked.
05:11:27 H44 is now leaving the nest.

07:59:00 At first a 'Gjak' can be heard and H21 answers ... I start the search game.
It was H44 ... it must be somewhere.
And yes, this time it lands on the lower branches at 7:59:04 am.
Our H's are having a conversation while H44 flutters 07:59:34 into the nest.

Now pictures become sounds ...
It's what I wrote down before I went to work.
H21 is either more sensitive, more rigorous or simply the part in this team that is responsible for troublemakers in the area / territory. I have seldom (remembered never) documented these moments as follows with H44.
08:10:46 - 49 H21 calls
08: 11: 9 - 12, 40 - 45, 49 - 52 now angry
Crows gargle ...
08:12:08-14, 26-32
08:13:00 - 02, 05-09, 20-24
08:14:18 - 24
08:15:40 - 45
08:16:10 - 12, 18 - 23
It's good to hear that H21 is on the move. And she's really not relaxed ...
08:17:58 - 18:04
08:18:26 31, 49-53
08:19:22 - 28, 50 - 56
Speculation: are the crows attacking the hiding place of our H's?
Well, I've been watching Boka and Lujis for the past year. Also to find out if Goshawks hunt excessively and store food in abundance.
No. What was eaten was hunted. And it wasn't as much as I expected.
So I'm not sure whether there are actually food stores near the nest.
We need one camera in the territory - better two.
Oh, forget ...
This is what a terzel looks like when the female is reprimanding crows.

08:20:44 H21 comes back through the side door with a branch.
Both greet each other and briefly tell each other.
08:21:22 H44 flies back into the area.
I don't know yet if I'll be able to watch a lot today. First of all, prepare food for the family.

A short while until the next update ...
09:30:50 H44 can be heard and H21 needs a few seconds to use his presence to demand.
09:31:33 H44 is prepared.
He does not appear in the nest empty-handed.
This time there is prey in gray feathers ....
09:32:00 H21 flutters out with the food.

Well this is a long time for H44 in the nest.
In the meantime, I rewinded to see if I was still right.
11:01:06 - 10 H21 is annoyed again.
...
11:16:56 - 17:01
11:18:00 - 03 (here the drawn out tone first. So the series began some time ago with the change of tones for H21. And on that day, too, there was trouble with crows.)
11:18:43 - 47
11:19:49 - 41 (same with the first note)
11:20:59 - 21:02
11:23:39 - 42

11:24:40 H21 ... how almost impossible without being noticed, H21 lands on the lower floor. The branches there are quite delicate ... whether they will survive this season under the landing arts of H21 ... we'll see.
H21 remains at the bottom but continues to jump to the right into the pixel area.
Then the final hop into the nest.
Another quick change.
11:25:04 H44 leaves the nest.
This time it is actually H44 that is shouting out to create order in the territory.
11:25:30
11:26:23 a.m. - 28
11:26:32 'Gjak' for H21 ... everything's okay.
.
.
.
A quick look at the evening. All H's counted - all eggs counted ... everything is fine.
Sometimes the days are too short to be there in detail.
Sleep well!

04:34:26 H44 comes into the nest.
H21 remains stubbornly. Only when H44 comes up to her and encourages her does she get up.
04:35:34 H21 leaves the nest.
A quirk of hers ... she touches the branch again. It has happened many times.
Crows can be heard in the distance
04:45:44 - 51H21 nags
04:55:55 - 56:00
04:56:13 - 18 now closer to the nest tree
04:58:47 - 54
04:59:41 - 46
05:00:12 - 16 H21 and a crow are discussing in the morning circle
More calls
05:00:34 - 40
05:01:19 - 25
05:04:07 - 14
So there was a need for clarification so early in the morning.

05:05:11 H21 is back.
It lands in the nest with a green twig before the twig lands on H44.
05:05:41 H44 leaves the nest, calls.
05:21:06/07 H21 is cleaning himself and pulling out a feather from her wing.

06:18:00 H44 calls from the area
06:18:07 H21 gets up, follows the calls to the group of trees on the left.
Both H's can be heard.
06:19:09 H44 takes over.
... and H21 starts their crow discussion round again.
07:37:01 - 06
07:37:46 - 51 Both have the floor - H21 and Crow
07:38:04 - 07, 25-29
07: 39: 05/06 H21 falls into the branches of the nest tree with shouts.
She remains sitting there, invisible to us, but at 07:42:24 she starts making gentle sounds to the nest.
07:43:15 She flies down again, calls.
07:45:50 Now H21 has returned to the lower floor. It flutters back to the nest piece by piece.
07:46:29 H44 jumps onto the side branch and leaves the tree '58. No calls

H21 must have hidden an egg timer.
Probably a coincidence ...
08:15 H21 gets up
08:18 covered again
08:28 high
08:31 down
08:43 high
08:46 down

Temperatures in Riga today up to 25 ° C.
I have to admit that I look a little envious of this summer mood ...

10:09 H21 gets up and goes to the nest beach.
10:10:11 H44 calls in the area, H21 joins in.
'43 Starts sending H44 'Gjak' and H21 replies again.
10:11:50 H21 is about to cover the eggs (3 minutes have passed ) when H44 flutters into the nest.
First, put both sticks back and forth. H21 later deals with the branch in front of him while lying down, while H44 looks very attentively in the area.
11:13:42 It takes off quite suddenly.
Only a short, quiet call delayed.

11:23 H21 goes up again, loosens her feathers.
She shifts some nest material (the bark) and creates it anew.
11:26 she covers the eggs again.
Okay, so maybe these 3 minutes of ventilation are actually not a coincidence.
No, I won't pay attention to it every time now.
H21 has their air conditioning running at full speed. She opens her beak, breathes quickly.

10:55:15 H44 announces itself with a call and is already at the nest.
Soft greeting and a challenging plucking on the wing of H21 . Then comes busy work on the nest floor and ...
... kisses.
It squeaks barely audibly again.
10:58:27 H44 flutters steeply down again. No reputation.
I have to slowly go to work

It is difficult to see if the Azores have food pantries, I think not. If the piece is large or there is no hunger, it stays in the nest and is eaten little by little.
In peregrine falcons they do keep prey that they take out later when they have abundant chickens and they need to feed a lot in a short time. On one occasion I saw a prey being taken out of a hole in a wall and the red kite was chasing it to try to take it.

I followed up on that thought of mine this morning.
Timestamp only specifically for this:
