what is going on here? is the other chick not ok?
has she stopped eating? sometimes

it happens that there is something wrong in the little chicks body. she is sick in some way. then they die away. it is quite normal. i once saw how an osprey chick jumped on her back in the middle of a wing exercise and literally dropped dead. until then everything seemed to be fine.

in a crisis situation it is usual that people become more or less upset. aren't you Sabsy overreacting a little? i don't seem to understand why.. :puzzled:
please write me a pm and tell me what is the matter. it is not very suitable here (for example prayers or any other overflowing expressions of emotions are not welcome). after all this is an observational topic.

Hello all, :hi:

looks like EE2 is dead, I can't see her/him breathing anymore. Hopefully there was no poison in the carcass, the nest is located in a national park so it would be strange if someone poisoned the animals.

Do you know, is allowed to use lead munition? Lead is highly toxic to eagles

i don't know about it but lead poisoning could be involved, in finland, some people still shoot eagles and deliberately disturb nests.

Lead causes paralysis, anemia and typically slow wilting in sea eagles. Lead is also harmful to humans, especially children, and to fetal development, as it causes central nervous system effects, among other things.

is Eerik sick, too? :slap: if the prey was unhealthy and everyone ate from it then everyone will be sick. EE1 would be the most vulnerable and the next to get ill if that is why EE2 died.
however, it is probable that it was entirely an internal problem with EE2.
(i always look for the first poop shots of chicks. if they shoot they have anuses. sometimes even that may be missing in a baby animal although it's a very rare malformation.)

spring should not be hunting season with any kind of munition. ... and isn't this nest in a protected area?

Oh no, how sad.
Unfortunately, hares are still shot with leaded shot.
When everyone has eaten from it, there is drama.
Let's hope the best.

It's unusual for Eve to stay away for so long. Nobody brought food to the nest. Eerik can hardly keep his eyes open. He is at the side of EE1.
He ate very well today. Outside the nest. But does that mean something?

EE1 was begging, but he begged not in the way it would be normal for a hungry chick

It seems pretty hot for Eerik

13:19 Eerik stretched out his wings
EE1 is still alive

13:21 He is looking to EE1

EE1 is stretching his wing- he stands up and stretched out both little wings. Is chirping
13:23 EE1 is stretching again .. tiny PS by EE1

is begging
Eerik went away from EE1
EE1 lies down again. He is not fed. Eerik stands on the fish

13:27 Eerik is moving again.. EE1 stands up. Short preening and chirping for food
13:29 EE1 is preening him/herself

So .... EE1 looks very much alive to me, he's hot and hungry.
But what's wrong with Eerik ... is he just * just * overeating, but why doesn't he react to EE1 ... or does Eerik think that Eve has already fed EE1 and the little one is dissatisfied * only * because he's hot?

my thoughts......

The child looks weak. But maybe it's because he didn't drink or eat.
However, at 13: 24, he made the "pss" appear to be in full health. And then he tried to clean himself up as well.

This photo shows that the chick's goiter is completely empty.

Eve doesn't feed EE1. She just looks at him over and over again.

15:03
EE1 tries to eat some of the fish.
