BREAKING NEWS:
Look at these two.... These are Merin's first ever chicks, he's breeding in The Lake District, Cumbria!
He has two girls and they were ringed last week: Blue 460 and 461.
Merin (2015 bird) was first spotted back in Denmark trying to breed (unsuccessfully) but is now happily breeding in England – on a natural, osprey-built nest.
With Aeron and Tegid breeding in north Wales, this means that Monty and Glesni have now had FOUR birds return and successfully breed in THREE different countries. Clarach bred in Aberfoyle, Scotland and may still be there.
What a legacy.
A zillion thanks to Peter Davies who ringed Merin's chicks and sent us all this information. We are absolutely euphoric

Blue 490 missed some fish snacks but later he took off from perch pole and after Telyn had left, he flew with elegance back to the nest

The chick on the Friends of the Ospreys’ Pont Croesor nest was ringed yesterday 16th July at 32 days old.
Blue 494 is the only chick to hatch from a clutch of three to Blue 014 (Poole Harbour 2018) and her mate, Z2/Aeron (Dyfi 2017). He weighed 1236g with a wing length of 273mm.
Congratulations and thank you to Friends of the Ospreys for inviting us to capture and share this experience. The beginning of a new era for Ospreys in the Glaslyn Valley

Blue 494 has been gaining confidence in his flight since fledging on Tuesday. He enjoyed taking short flights around the nest area at Pont Croesor yesterday, offering fantastic views to visitors who were thrilled to witness an osprey chick in the sky this season.

Idris has shared all the food he's caught with Telyn and the kids all summer.
So what does Telyn do when she catches her own fish and Idris wants her to return the favour?
Telyn is in full self-preservation mode now, she has a long flight ahead of her soon.

As we reach the the final month of the osprey breeding season, it's just an absolute pleasure watching this family.
Dysynni and Ystwyth with Telyn in the middle, roosting on the nest perch last night.

Dysynni has shown himself to be a great flier since he fledged 10 days ago.
He's a strong, independent, confident young osprey.
But he's still Mummy's boy, though..£1

Well, this was not in the camera plan.
Dysynni decides he likes to stand directly in between the two cameras on Monty's Perch.
Both he and Ystwyth will have imprinted on these cameras in their early phase-sensitive learning behaviour, understanding that structures like these (cameras) are to be considered a normal part of an osprey's nest structure.
Does this camera imprinting make chicks from the Dyfi more likely to choose nests with cameras on when they return to breed in a few years?
Time will tell..
