It occurs to me that it would not be inappropriate to copy here Brit's important post asking us for help for white storks, in case some of you haven't seen it at the Stories and News section:
"White storks Hansi and Lisa need your help!
Dear stork friends!
The military plans the removal of two white storks, which have been living in Zeltweg (Styria) since three years.
• If the animals can be captured, they plan to cut their wing feathers for two years to prevent their return to Zeltweg.
• If they can't be captured, they will be shot
Please help Hansi and Lisa, so that they can stay and live a long peaceful life in Zeltweg. With your signature, you protest against this animal abuse through the Austrian military.
Your personal informations are handled confidential and are only forwarded to responsible authorities.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at office@tierschutz-murtal.at "

Evening light on the autumn nest. The nettles continue to do well, & there is also grass & perhaps a fern?

Right before signing off last night, I checked the BS nest & took a shot of the autumn nest. Interesting ot see how it changes subtly over the days. And also how well the nettle is doing!

New photos from blackstorks Raivo and Oss are now posted on the interactive migration card http://birdmap.5dvision.ee/ : click to the cam symbol besides the name of the birds.
Carsten Rohde, German blackstork expert and one of the authors of the best book on blackstorks is at the time in Israel and observing them. As in the last years he could identify both birds. Raivo is his absolute favorite as you can see on one of his own websites: http://schwarzstorchberingung.de/page14.php

Yesterday we with Joosep removed BS camera system from forest.
Removed also the nettles (with main roots).
Next year here most probably will be LSE webcam, but nobody knows surely...
For BS cam we will search and test other places. There are couple of possibilities.

I have not yet had a year to view the Black Storks and even the White Storks are unknown to me so I do not have the emotional attachment to them -- of course I would love to see a successful Black Stork nest. It is so sad there are not enough females in Estonia, but I have to admit it will be very interesting to be able to watch two or three including Latvia LSE eagle nests. We can get some sense of individual variety.

To Urmas and all people who worked to made it possible watching the blackstork nest until now.
Thank you so very much for all you have done. It was great to see what happened or not in this nest this year.
All the best wishes
yours, Bleggi

Thank you Urmas & all who made possible the BS cam (which sort of became an LSE cam). It was fun to watch changing conditions with the nest, even though no bird family was begun there. Observing how the leaves began to fill the nest during autumn gave me some sense of the Estonian countryside, & it was beautiful.

But, the Black Stork nest was used by a pair of LSEs. Padis was unable to find a mate so the eagles chased him away.

Urmas tells in his latest update of Birdmap - http://birdmap.5dvision.ee/index.php?lang=en - that not only has the Birdmap spring season started - but black storks Leida and Valdur are moving!
