13:20 H21 returns with a large piece of fodder.
Image

She starts feeding - but with the smaller remnant from the nest. 3 chicks follow the offer, the fourth dreams it.
Image

'22 H21 stops feeding and lies down with the chicks.

15:47 H21 looks in all directions...check check :D
Image

Image

....draws the smaller joker and begins offering bites.
Image

16:07 H21 finishes feeding and leaves the nest with the feed carcass.
It's interesting to see how H21 flies forward but the chicks look to the left as if on cue. What is there?
The minis quickly come together. :innocent:

16:43 H44 brings food to the nest, well plucked.
Image

H21 takes it and leaves the nest with it.
H44 prances around the chicks. He starts running like he did when he wanted to cover the eggs. Try to find a good position.
Well, that won't work... as much as he would obviously like to do it. :innocent:

'47 H21 returns with the food and H44 leaves the nest.

16:47, so then H21 takes the food out of the nest again.

In '54 she returns to the nest without food, covers the chicks.

'55 H44 brings the feed back to the nest.... :slap: :rotf:
Image

He plucks in the nest and at H21...H21 is very patient with him.

'58 H44 flies back to the grove

Hello, Polly .
A remark, a thought...I find one of the chicks always 'dirty' and 'puny'. I don't know how to describe it or how to describe it. And whether other observers share this feeling. I can't tell if it's always the same chick. For my part, this feeling is not negative or judgmental - on the contrary.
I am aware that four chicks do not develop at the same time (each chick has its own pace) and that gender also has different bases.
Emiliano? Or other observers... feel free to share your observations and opinions here!
Do you sometimes get that impression too?
Yes, it is true that there is a chicken that seems somewhat absent from time to time but other times it eats like everyone else.

Now they are in a phase in which they throw a dirty down with which they are going to regulate their own temperature without depending so much on the mother.
Let's hope that everything goes well, although it may be normal that some chickens are late or do not develop well.

I don't know if you're referring to that.

Greetings.

Hello Emiliano :hi: , thank you for your opinion.
Maybe I'm too sensitive or not optimistic enough. (although I usually am)
Four chicks in the nest is unfamiliar. They will get enormously more need for food. A weaker, sickly chick would be in bad shape for the time to come. And like all animals, Goshawk has a certain rate of loss. But so far there is no provable bad situation for any of the Minis. It's just subjective feeling on my part. Sometimes it is so.
:dunno:

Everything is ok so far today...let's go.

May 22nd

04:16 H21 leaves the nest.
'20 Back with empty claws

04:27 H21 pulls feed from the edge of the nest and starts feeding the chicks.
Image

After some stretching and knots, the last one comes off the starting block. No bites for him. The chick sits behind the siblings and has a worse position.

05:13 H44 flutters into the nest, H21 down below.
Image

H44 jumps onto the side branch.
'14 Now he too is leaving the tree.
Image

The bundles of joy are alone at home... the last bit of food, once again a leg is next to them.

'16 H21 returns through the side entrance.

H21 sometimes shines as brightly as autumn. There is a lot going on in her plumage at the moment. :innocent:

07:56 H21 leaves the nest.

The chicks are napping... :innocent:
'58 H21 returns with a nice fresh branch of an oak tree.

08:50 H21 flaps onto the side branch, loosens its feathers and observes the surroundings of the industrial site.

'53 She leaves the branch there.

08:54 Barely a minute later, H21 returns with another green branch.
She picks up the remaining leg of the feed and starts feeding her chicks.
The minis are greedy, many bites fall out of their beaks and the siblings catch what is dropped. It is difficult to say whether all chicks ate equally.
Image

'57 H21 ends the lead and flutters way up into the side branch.
Image

09:03 She flies away steeply downwards.

09:10 H21 returns, bringing nothing this time.
Small leftovers/bites from the last feeding are picked up and distributed to open beaks. The chicks have a good appetite but there were only a few leftovers.

09:17 Interesting news about H21... :D
She looks relaxed but very closely upwards.

09:25 H21 starts calling softly.
'26/27 She's still looking in the same direction and calls again.
H44 responds, brings food to the nest. H21 rises and tries to pull the feed. She's having trouble with it. It is a larger piece of food and branches in the nest block it.
Image

'28 H44 leaves the nest, H21 feeds her chicks.
A chick holds back at first, only taking occasional morsels. Then it positions itself in the first row and takes off.
Image

One of the chicks appears to be eating a foot.
In '51, H21 takes a leg, chokes it out, and then eats it.
Image

'52 The feeding is finished, H21 leaves the nest.
A great feeding for all!

She brings a fresh branch.

H44 brings the food, feeding (heavily cut), H21 back in the nest

10:43 H21 flies away low down.

'47 back
A new perspective.

10:50 Excited shouts in the area.
Immediately afterwards, H21 returns to the nest with a green branch.
Image

Then jump onto the side branch.
Image
'55 back to the nest.

11:45 H21 flies away downwards.
'58 She returns with food. H21 seems cautious.

'59 H44 calls in the grove

12:15 H44 into the nest with decorative feathers on its beak.
Both are observant...extremely silent. They stand and watch and remain silent. As if they are holding their breath.
Image

Image

'19 After 5 minutes of silence, H44 leaves the nest.
Everything is said.

13:24 H21 is digging intensively in the bottom of the nest again.
Image

Image

'26/27 A crow is over the nest tree.
Hearing and seeing the upper branch bounce as the crow disappears again.

16:37 H21 is gnawing at the food - her chicks are unresponsive.
A minute later all leftovers are eaten and H21 leaves the nest.
'43 with a fresh green branch back

19:19 H44 brings supplies for the bundles of joy.
They're served quickly and H21 doesn't waste any time.
Image

While the hungry beaks are stuffed, H44 flutters down onto the side branch... out '21.
Image

Feeding 19:20 - 34
A very good, disciplined feeding :innocent:

H21 leaves the nest with the rest (again a leg I think).
Image

A minute later back in the nest. H21 hatches her chicks
"Throw your heart across the river and swim after it."
