Mom's still away, chicks becoming a bit restless.

:slap: She arrived back at the nest just when I wrote the above, no food with her.

Again Mom's off. I am learning about the Goshawks, so maybe this is completely normal behavior. To me it looks strange to leave these tiny ones alone for such a (relatively) long time.

Female lands on the nest with a bunch of spruce, no food, but she starts calling the male for prey.

Nice to see: in a certain light her eyes are red, in an other light her eyes are yellow.
Female calls again.

Newborn chick #3 starts pecking at its siblings, maybe sees movements and hopes it is Mom's beak with food in it? :rotf:

Image

Female hesitating, waiting or go hunting herself. Chicks start pecking at each other and at Mom's beak when she came too close.
Here all 3 chick's faces in sight. #3 at the left.

Hello IceAge, Timea and everyone.

Congratulations to the couple who have already completed the hatching of all their eggs. :loveshower: :loveshower:

Egg laying took a minimum of 5 days (possibly longer) and hatching in 2.87 days.

This reduction is due to the fact that it does not incubate "seriously" at the beginning so that the chicks hatch without so much distance between them.

The hatching time of the eggs since they were laid has been:

1 Egg..... 38.25 days (surely something more)
2 Egg ..... 36.65 days
3 Egg ..... 35.67 days

We can say that it is quite similar to the times of the Riga couple (2020) with a laying of three eggs, accepting some error in the estimates that could not be exact in all cases, especially in the laying of the first egg. in which there is only indication of the day.

The time of the first egg is shorter than in clutches of 4 or 5 eggs since it is easier to harmonize the birth in a clutch of 5 days or more than in one of 8 or more days. ( 38 days about 41-42 days )

The last egg would reflect a more real incubation since possibly when it was laid it would already be incubating almost full time.

Timea, the mother, even if she goes away, will not be far away.

Greetings

Now Dad arrives, without food though. Immediately Mom returns, male leaves and female calls after him: get some food for your chicks you!
Image

P.S. And I now see female brought food herself? She starts feeding anyway.
#3 sits in front.... of course the other 2 are quicker, but it is not a shy one. (And can grab some bites!)

All 3 have eaten very well, #3 of course only a few bites. Female calls for more when the prey is almost finished. Male answers her calls from a distance.
