14:19 Voldis called nearby. then buzzard's calls. i think this was a real buzzard.
14:20 Voldis called and flew in and called more. he was followed by a bird who flew by the top.
i combined 3 consecutive frames of the bird. i think it was the buzzard.
edit: i looked up characteristics of buzzards (Buteo buteo) in a bird guide. it says that adults have dark trailing edge on the wings and tail (the tail is in shadow in this picture below) and "pale breast generally typical". both can be seen in the first frame on the left.
buzzards and eagles are not friends. it sounded like perhaps the buzzard surprised Voldis. his voice seemed to come from one place, not from flight.

14:22 he sat down on the back of the nest and moved some hay.
14:23 he got up again.

14:26 it seems that he is trying not to lean on his left foot with full weight. he did the same thing yesterday. has he injured his leg? :puzzled:

14:32 he began to stand on his right foot.

on Tuesday evening (May 24th) the eagles called a lot far in the forest. the calls sounded angry and irritated. maybe there was a stranger. Voldis perhaps had some melee with someone then. :puzzled:

he keeps resting his left foot by keeping it up every now and then for some time. when he puts the foot down he does not lean on it.

15:48 he lifted another stick from the left side to the right side of the nest. notable activity.

16:00 Voldis looked like he was planning to leave. he pooped a big load and jumped to the runway but then he cancelled. instead he gnawed a twig on the front left.

16:09 he sat down but got up again.
16:22 he sat down again.

the blackbird was working hard as usual. he sings practically all the time. often he is also visible on the top of the spruce on the right. for example this evening he sang there 21:42:49 - 22:07:41 non-stop. 17 min! and both before that he sang and after that he sang somewhere else.

May 29

good morning!

3:29 a woodcock flew by and called. he is still patrolling around his territory. it's only matter of luck if i happen to find his call before all other birds begin to sing. 8-)

no-one has visited. i listened to the recordings from 3:32 to 6 am but i didn't find anything special. one funny event i found:
5:55 tree frogs burst quite suddenly into very loud singing. that lasted for about 3 min.

the eagles have sung their morning songs on May 19 for the last time. that's 10 days ago. on May 21 they called a few times in the morning in the forest but those calls were not proper morning songs. they were communication calls. i think it's not worth while to look for these calls by listening any more, unless they are clearly noticeable on the video.

at last a visitor! :headroll:
13:39 a chaffinch made a brief stop on the right branches. :D
the picture is not very clear but the bird had bright white stripes on the wing and a reddish-brown breast. also the voices fit with a chaffinch.

20:52:39 the blackbird flew to the top of the spruce on the right. he began to sing... and he sang....
21:27:about 30 another blackbird began to sing on our top.
21:29:06 the first blackbird flew away from the spruce on the right.

the blackbird on our top sang till 21:46.
then he jumped down to the right branch. he went down under the nest. then he flew away.

our blackbird has been sitting on the top of the spruce on the right most of the evening and he has been singing all the time.

May 30

good morning!

2:46 a tawny owl female called in the forest.

it's been a rather long time since the last time when tawny owls were heard. this night was probably calm enough to hear them. they have not been quite near all winter.

i could not hear when our lodger left even though the night was so calm and quiet. :slap:
... unless this soft sound was the departure. if the lodger can leave as quietly as here then it's no wonder that i have missed it so many times.

4:28:12 a blackbird flew to our top again. our tree seemed to be the favourite singing platform this morning instead of the spruce on the right. 8-)
he sang there at least 10 min.

again i didn't see him leaving. on both these times he flew from somewhere else than the spruce on the right.
