Day 63; Week 9.

"A range of studies have put the length of the nestling period at between 60 and 80 days (Cramp & Simmons 1980; Palmer 1988). Collopy (1984) believed that all nestlings in his study fledged when they were between 66 and 75 days old. My impression from western Scotland, an area with a generally poor food supply, is that few eagles there fledge before they are 70 days old, with the majority taking their first fight between 70 and 80 days old." - The Golden Eagle, Dr. Jeff Watson

03:39:39 - Margit and the spider.

The eaglet attacks fiercely. She grabs hold of Kalju's foot and tugs with all of her might several times.

She switches tactics and attempts a talon hold, losing the grip on his foot with her beak. He is free.

Kalju leaves towards the peat bog, curving in front of the canopy, bogside, and heading right.

05:37:31 - Margit finds Kalju's delivery. She is soon eating it. Another smew (Mergellus albellus) or common goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) duckling? I can't tell. The head is missing.

Ah, thank you vainamoinen for letting me know! :> That narrows it down to one. The duckling documented on this page, delivered June 10th, must be a common goldeneye (Bucephala clangula). Unless there is another duckling I missed with that facial patterning? Please let me know, if you do.
