She also gave at least 2 servings.

The chick tore off some of the food that Kaia still had in her throat.

Are you a bird of prey? 8-)

Hallo Swenja :hi:

Maybe Kaia and Karl now sometimes go fishing together
and have discovered a nest with small snakes
that have not yet hatched, i.e. eggs!?
Or salamanders, or something like that...
I don't know if they eat something like that
and that's why it was so hard to get it out again!?

Good luck to everyone involved tonight.
I'm really excited and will keep checking back.
It will also be exciting how Kaia and Karl will react to the newcomer.
Let's hope that Kaia and Karl surprise us positively.
Best regards

As Kaia is in the nest, Urmas won't bring Jaanipoeg today, it is too risky for all of them.

Even if Kaia flies away. There is a good chance that Kaia will stay very close to the nest.

The chicks are wondering why mom doesn't fly away.

There is a real chance that Kaia has indeed decided to stay with the chicks tonight.
In about half an hour or less the camera will switch to night vision.
But let's wait and see...

What if Kaia stays?
Presumably Urmas is already (or almost) somewhere in the vicinity with the chick?

The OrniTrack data session for Karl II failed today. :faint:
So we don't know where he is.

is that normal then? :slap: Unexpectedly, the little ones have eaten so much that Kaia can stay in the nest and Karl may not be far away either

It happens sometimes.
But very rarely (during the breeding season, in Estonia).

We have time to relax, make coffee, talk to someone on the phone - - -
Urmas will be at the nest area in about an hour, then he will need time to set up climbing gear.
He knows about Kaia - -
Relax for a whle. It may be a long night -

If Kaia leaves the nest please will someone write the time of her departure? I have to be away from the camera for a short while.
Thanks.
