Who still remembers the wonderful Bubo...the lonely owl in the Latvian Nest/Kurzeme.
There is unexpected news in the neighboring forum. I think of him so often and I'm really very happy to hear from Bubo!!!!!
As an exception, I share it here. Since the topic is locked in our forum. And Bubo is still very close to my heart... and maybe some of you will be happy with me.

Notice to all Bubo fans! :)
In the 2022 season, the river is still alone, but safe and sound.
The bird continues to visit the nest and look after its territory.
With the help of the trailer camera, we will continue to follow the events in the nest and tell you what's new in Bubo's life.

I saw it too and thought about drawing it on a picture.
But I suspected that you would also see it without a label.
As far as I can remember, one of the male Hawklets also had the beginning of the pen drawing. Too bad we won't be seeing the Mini-H's that often anymore.

18:38 H44 brings food to the nest.
It is not clear to me whether he actually wants to hand over the food in the nest or is just looking for a common starting point.
He looks out, hears his Hawklets. Leaves the nest with food a minute later.
18:43 back...with the food.
Now his Hawklets are audibly approaching at close range. They discovered him.
H44 will now leave the nest in the same minute with the food in its claws.
And now it's good to hear the Hawklets following their father.

Hello together
The day starts early for the first members of the H family.
04:27/28 H21 comes into the nest with a small twig - and brings two of its screeching hawklets with it.
The brother flies straight into the nest, after which H21 quickly leaves it.
H97, the sister stays on the lower floor for the time being. She has a very powerful voice.

Then H97 jumps into the nest too.
Follows her brother to the side branch, but then switches branches twice. Both are now sitting relaxed in viewing positions.

H97 left, brother right
The brother is left out ... rages, flutters and practices prey.
Something haphazard?
Later, H97 rages along. Both flutter through the branches almost as if playing together.
Even when they can no longer be seen - they can be heard. Like her mom H21.
Later, the siblings fly together to the yellow mast.

06:53 Difficult to say which of the young gentlemen has settled here.
Honestly I was wondering if it's even one of the minis?
Sits, then flies over to the factory premises after noticing something.
Sweet ki ki ki from a hawklet is heard.
Also a frightened seagull...unsure who was trying to catch who.

Hello Polly and all.
When the chicks arrive at the nest exorbitant, they displace the same mother (H21) not only (H44).
Good night
The Eagle Owl is a great predator that has spread widely in the province where I live and displaces the goshawk on many occasions and other birds of prey.Who still remembers the wonderful Bubo...the lonely owl in the Latvian Nest/Kurzeme.

The goshawk often kills young eagle owls that are being raised in its old nest (eyrie) from the previous year. Because eagle owls like to breed in hawk nests. I have seen several times that an eagle owl has killed a hawk because it killed one of its young. Special feature: I was able to observe how the hawks used their nests (horst) for several years. First the hawk bred in the nest, then the owl. When the young owls left the nest, the nest had a hole in the middle. Now to the peculiarity of the hawk. The hawk patched up the hole in the nest the following year and raised its young in it.

First of all, the Hawklets can only be heard today.
It would be interesting to know whether it's always the same ones that are still so loyal to the area for a few days?
07:46 According to the sound, a parent is moving through the area. Nothing to see but two hawklets can be heard begging massively approaching the nest tree.
'49 They change position. Their voices are getting quieter...they fly away.
'53 After a quieter phase, the urgent calling can be heard again.

08:29 The two Hawklets can be heard at different distances.
The boy quickly crawls into the nest, screaming.
Stand, look around, lie down - and keep calling.
His sibling can also be heard.
'34 He has discovered something, is excited and in pole position slips forward to the edge of the nest.
And it remains hopeful for him - a parent has seemingly been discovered. The sibling can also be heard eagerly below the tree
The boy falls out of the nest, screaming.

Quickly return to the nest...almost crawled.
Check check ... he gives up and soon lies down. His siblings can no longer be heard either.
He seems exhausted. Resting becomes snoozing and even slumbering at times.

The hawklet later jumps onto the side branch, loosens its feathers and only flies back into the terrain at 09:20 calling - after it has defecated overboard again.

Hello Polly and everyone
Chicken sounds in the distance:
15:21, 16:46, 18:02, 19:34, 21:16, 21:27
They are still in the area expanding their territory, it seems that it is in the morning when they are more in the area of the nest.
Goodnight

In the early morning only one voice could be heard.
06:04 A hawklet flies into the nest tree ... how great and sovereign.
If we consider how quickly they have evolved.
Calls from another sibling can be heard in the distance.
The hawklet in the tree calls from time to time.
'35 A goshawk can be seen flapping in the left stand of trees.
'36 ...on the yellow mast
'54......In the lower part of the site.
But everything is very relaxed.

06:59 A ki ki ki is heard - hawklet or adult?
07:00 begging calls begin
'18 It's getting loud. H21 brings food to the nest - and has two of her Hawklets in tow.
According to the votes, there are three Hawklets.

Yes...
'19 The third hawklet flaps into the tree.
The siblings are very close to each other. There will be hierarchies but there will be no aggressive arguments. H97 turns away from the food, the brother starts to eat.

The third hawklets initially remain in the branches of the tree.
'26 Brief excitement.
A parent and third hawklet flutter through the branches. I can't tell for sure if we're seeing H21 or H44. Think H21.
H97 and the brother in the nest very excited and defensive.
In this situation, H97 leaves the nest - the sibling on the lower floor also flutters back down and a little later H21 too.
The brother now has the nest and the food carcass to himself.

07:37 The second brother is now coming into the nest.
After a short defensive pose, his sibling lets go of the food, flutters onto the side branch and leaves it to his sibling. It would have been a chance...
However, H97 returns to the nest before her brother has taken a bite. She immediately places her foot on the carcass - claiming the food. There is no discussion...quiet hierarchy.

H97 observes something, stops eating.
And she quickly kidnaps the feed carcass from the nest.
Her brother is now also leaving the side branch.
The brother who previously left the nest through the small exit is still sitting in the tree and calls from time to time.
What happened so far (abridged)
