Emiliano, warm greetings to Spain. :2thumbsup:

Yes, I heard the morning calls today.
07:30 H44 was also heard here.

11:07/08 There were calls away.
And crows ....of curse. 8-)

11:10 H21 with closer distance and excited.

It got interesting from 13:36

Riga in the jungle feeling ...

High and loud calls.
When it started, I immediately remembered - this had happened before. Although H21 keeps calling shrill and high, there are subtle differences. Delicate nuances that mark moments and their meaning.
Today was special again ...her voice has sharpness.

Indeed- two females to hear.
In my opinion, besides H21, we hear her daughter H97. The voice is delicate.

13:43 H21 advances the nest. Your voice gets louder.
Pole position for the nest owner.

13:47 - 56 Communication increases. The females respond directly to their calls.

late '57.

rain sets in.

However, it is possible that both females are still present.

Full length, not cut.

Really interesting what happened today.

16:33 - 17:03 Both females are still present.

After a long pause, both voices begin again.
If it's the young H97, does she really have stamina - or need?

In the case of last year, it ended with ugly noise. However, this phase did not last for so many hours.
So far everything sounds relaxed.

Let's listen:

17:11:03 H44 with a close 'Gjak' out of nowhere.

It's good to hear.
After the nagging of the females...

So H21 is sitting near him.

17:13:03 His 'Gjak' again...so close and reassuring.
This time H21 responds. Also it has a close position at the nest.

Unfortunately, the couple cannot be seen.
But it is together close to the nest.

(At 17:24:13 we see a Goshawk (adult dress) fly into the left grove of trees.)

Goodnight Polly.

Thank you Polly for the videos and annotations. :2thumbsup:

It does seem like a territorial behavior between females, one of them still has juvenile tones of sound (H97 as you say) or also from a neighboring couple.
For the rest, everything is fine, discreet H44, it will go into action.

Greetings and see you tomorrow.

Emiliano,
all claims of ownership seem resolved.
Today it's excitingly quiet in the territory of the magical H's.

Few calls, all further away or I've overrun them.
(But I'm only at 2:33...)

A lovely evening!

By the way, I found the situation from last year again.
(I remembered yesterday)

It was shriller, more controversial than yesterday but similar.

And here, quite obvious disagreement.
10 Oct 21... so the similar period a year ago. In which it seems that after the hawklets are raised, a period of crowding begins.

(Possibly a direct, physical confrontation at the beginning and middle of the video)

OK, it stays that way.
Some possible 'Gjak' from H44 (I went through it at double speed, still very likely), loose female calls but overall a relaxed day for today. :innocent:

In Scotland the Goshawk's nest was made autumn ready today. Everything that was left in the nest was taken away. Feathers, other material...probably there is more under the nest than in the nest itself.

Hello Polly :hi:

It seems that at this time of the year they are in heat , H21 was seen with his white deployed and they defend their territory from other visitors even if they are their children who are still in the area , generally with voices of affirmation of the territory without getting into fights bloody as they say almost everywhere referring to the goshawk.

What seems strange to us one year becomes the norm the following year around the same time. I think repetition is good because it allows us to discover and interpret new things or make sense of some of the previous ones.

In Scotland it seems that they have gone to collect remains of prey and feathers for later identification of prey and also lighten the nest a bit.

Greetings and see you tomorrow.

Hello Polly and everyone. :hi:

There has been a lot of loud and continuous noise in the factory in the morning.
I only heard something at 8:21:48 - 52 and very much in the background. There may have been others.

At noon there was wind with strong gusts to calm down somewhat in the afternoon - night.

It has not been a very auspicious day.

Goodnight.

Yes, the fall program is actually something like fallen asleep feet.

Yesterday, like today, I was in the stream at double speed most of the time. Still pretty thorough. Today I think I heard at least H44 or even both of the H's.
Mainly H44 with its soft tones. (12:14 - 26)

A sign from the couple is enough for me at the moment.
H21 & H44 will also need this time to relax and recharge their batteries.
It seems both are close to the nest.

Meanwhile, let's listen to their neighbors' voices...and we'll know when the Goshawk couple will be around.

Greetings in these troubled times! :innocent:

Another calm day despite the bright sun and the inviting weather...

I have noted three timestamps - two of which I have carefully bracketed again.

I will report back only when there is no doubt or more activity than a few accepted calls in the territory.

Have a safe time everyone!

Today I have something more.

After only a single tone could be heard in the last few days, today there was a longer conversation - longer, not long.
Keeping a long story short.
The couple like a ghost couple - I didn't see them coming and didn't go. They are just there. And very close.

16:51 Beginning of the soft lute
'53 Their movements can be heard and then clear voices follow.
'54 H21 squeaks again...H44 with 'Gjak'

The alarm chortles of the blackbirds say the H's are still around.
And yes, 18:00 and 18:08 they are still there.

You can still hear her movements in the undergrowth many minutes later... as well as the displeasure of the smaller neighbors.

I once read that blackbirds use different warning sounds. The gurgle like in the video (above) when the enemy is close to the ground. A high-pitched sound when the enemy (bird of prey) approaches from above.

Well, only the blackbird knows its song for sure... :whistling:

10 October :slap:

Hello Polly and everyone. :2thumbsup:

Yes, it is always nice to listen to them and know that they are there.

They are irregular even in heat, there are times when it seemed that they were not going to lay because they were not listened to enough and suddenly H21 approaches and lays the first egg. She did it in 2021 and has repeated it in 2022, especially now, but we have seen her with her white tail unfolded and her maximum activity almost always coincides with clear weather.

This morning it rang far away at 7:28 and then at 7:34

As for the blackbirds, I have already mentioned it once, those alarm laughter are very similar to the first sounds of the goshawk in the morning before its ki-ki-ki.

The song of the male is one of the most beautiful there is. I read a children's book about a boy who broke his leg and was in bed for a long time, it was winter and a blackbird came to his window to keep him company, he was with him all the time, his ears rang until spring came and the bird went to his love affairs coinciding with the child's medical discharge. He called him Don Piccolo and that's what I call him too.

Regards and good night.

Emiliano, thanks for your timestamps.
The couple were very chatty today.

Additionally (along with a few other occasional calls) H21 could be heard making contact calls:14:23 - 33
Irregular at first, then at the same pace and energetically at the end.

15:02 H44 reported to the site and received an announcement from H21. 8-)

October 12 th

Good afternoon Polly and everyone. :hi:

Regarding the installation of the goshawks in populations of Europe I have found an extensive article on the colonizationin the city of Hamburg (Germany), not far from the town of Polly.

Not long ago, Hamburg had about 50 pairs of goshawks, a little more than in Riga, as well as its extension, although in population they are almost three times more.

The author has been studying the goshawk in Hamburg for a long time and intensively.
Cities provide food, shelter, and protection for prey, but the goshawk is skipping the latter.

The previous conditions were not to be the same in Riga (with farms that allowed the goshawks to settle) as in Hamburg, although today they may be more alike.

In more cities the colonization of the goshawks is taking place but not so massively. The most spectacular case is the city of Berlin, which can count on a hundred couples from the goshawks .

Enjoy it.

Cheers
