Good morning to
all
We don't have the cranes on the map anymore but I'm very happy to have found good news about a crane.
"Ahjapoeg 1" has been spotted in France ! Excellent !
As I understood from the text, "Ahjapoeg 2" - siblingsis also doing well and he/she has wintered again in Serbia/Hungary.
Unfortunately there was also sad news Ahja M, the father (if I'm right) died.

The Estonian Crane "Ahjapoeg 1" in the picture hatched in 2020, and I tagged him and his sibling on 26 July with Uko Bleive in the village of Ahja in south-east Estonia. All members of his family were wearing GPS-GSM transmitters. They spent their first winter, 2020/2021, with their parents in Ethiopia. In the second winter, his sibling wintered in Hungary/Serbia, but "Ahjapoeg 1" wintered in Camargue. As you can see, the bird returned this winter (pictured on its migration route last autumn), and its sibling is also wintering in Hungary/Serbia again. On the other hand, their father was killed by mammalian predators in August last year, together with one of his chicks, in the area where they were born. However, the mother flew back to Ethiopia to winter with her remaining offspring last autumn. "Ahjapoeg 1", on the other hand, left Hungary on 1 December 2022 and then stopped in Croatia for a few days. From Croatia, it started its migration at 12:51 UTC on 6 December and, after a non-stop migratory flight of 1050 km, arrived in the Camargue region at 18:28 UTC on 7 December.
