Hobby falcon in Dorset, UK - Note 5th August:

The three chicks in this nest were ringed under license 25th July. Colour rings AJ, AK and AL were fitted. Presently AJ and AL are accounted for. AK seemed to tumble out of sight yesterday morning and as yet has not been seen back on camera. This is a wild nest and these chicks are going through the natural process of fledgling. This is a precarious stage in any bird's life. Hopefully we will see AK back on camera soon. If AK is located or seen we will let you know.

Hobbie falcon in Dorset, UK: Note 8th August.

Viewing at this nest camera is coming to an end.
We hope you have enjoyed watching a close up view of the lives of these amazing birds.
Chicks AJ and AL have fledged successfully.
We haven't be able to locate chick AK yet so are assuming it may have perished.
This is a unfortunate but part of the natural process.
We wish AJ and AL well and hope to see them back in the UK again one day.

A young falcon today already from 5:46 on the nest perch observing
a group of sibblings and maybe two parent falcons over the Olympic Square. At 6:50 the little one joins the squadron!

367 Collins Falcons

Dear Peregrine Falcon Watchers
Welcome to Season 2022!
The live stream has commenced 25th of August with the laying of the first eggs. The stream will remain active until after the last fledglings have left the nest.
Mirvac are the owners of the building that the nests are located on, and the owners of the camera and live stream. The Peregrine Falcons are wild birds, and Mirvac do not interfere with the Falcons in any way. We merely provide the camera and live stream to allow the opportunity to observe the natural behaviours of these magnificent creatures. Mirvac do work closely with Peregrine Falcon expert Dr Victor Hurley to ensure that all decisions are made with the best interests of the Falcons as the most important priority. The cameras will not be adjusted or moved during the season. Please note that the camera may switch off from time to time over the season for software updates. We will always ensure the live stream is switched back on as soon as possible.
There will be no chat available on the live stream. There are alternative spaces available for further information on the Falcons and for Falcon Watchers to interact, such as the Facebook Group, “367 Collins Falcon Watchers” https://www.facebook.com/groups/367co.... Dr Victor Hurley does post information on this Facebook Group from time to time. Please note that this Facebook Group is not affiliated with Mirvac.
The live stream can also be viewed via the 367 Collins Street website:

We hope you enjoy Season 2022.

I have read, that there is a "new" female. Last season again the trichomoniasis was the reason for the death from the fourth chick. It has been suggested that the previous female may also have eventually succumbed to this disease.

They have that problem there every year. I've watched this stream for two seasons. It was hartbreaking to see such a suffering for this beautiful creatures.

Liz, thank you!

The situation there is a bit confusing this season. Most likely a new female and an new male and the male from the previous years.
I will try to detect, who is the Dad from the eggs, chicks.

Good Morning Birdfriend :hi:

2 little ones have hatched so far :chick: :chick:

I hope the new male, he is a young one, will take care of the family well. To be honest I'm a bit worried (I remember what happened to Milda and her chicks, Latvian WTE)

367 Collins Falcons

by Victor Hurley
This post might be of some interest to this group.
The last confirmed sighting of M17 was on 17th Sep, 2022. With such a time of absence at his traditional nest site it is almost certain his is dead. If he were alive and recovered from any injuries and reappeared he would wind up dead or severely injured again. This in large part is based on many observations by volunteers and many sites over many years with the Victorian Peregrine Project we coined a term we called "The Agro Index". Aggressive defence of the nest increases measurably over the breeding season. Two things are occurring.
1. Stress hormones increase during the breeding season.
2. Related to point 1. the level of the "investment" in this breeding season accumulates and so is more worth defending the longer it goes on.
Adults tend to be less aggressive say prior to egg laying than they are once incubation has started and even more so as the nestlings increase in age.
An adult female Peregrine Falcon was found in the "Melbourne metro area" on 21st June with serious injuries and was euthanized. I am presuming this is F17.
Approximately 90% of injured raptors that do make it into a clinic for care end up being euthanized. These are predators like nature "Red in tooth and claw".
Several "reports" of Peregrine Falcons being brought into care in the "Melbourne" area have all been found to be misidentifications (1 Brown Falcon and 2 x Australian Hobbies).

Leigh Stillard Admin

Current status of Downed Juvenile Nestling
Hi all,
As most of you are aware, a Peregrine falcon hatchling was found earlier today in distress near the nest site in Melbourne's CBD. Building management at the site was able to collect it, and organise support from Wildlife Victoria to get the bird the care it needs.
Please do not contact Wildlife Victoria or the Mirvac concierge or building management for updates. They have jobs to do and the attention from this site will quickly overwhelm their ability to do them. Victor is in contact with all parties and will pass on any updates as we receive them.
Victor's preliminary assessment based on the video posted earlier is that the bird seemed seriously concussed. Being unable to right itself, it likely clipped a hard object nearby while on one of it's first flights. We will share more information as it comes to light - but please, let the good people at Wildlife Victoria do their job.
When there is an update I will make a post here, and link to it from this post.
We've been very lucky this year to have a successful clutch of 4 nestlings survive and thrive. Hopefully and with luck this nestling will make a full recovery to fly again.
Regards,
Leigh

Really tragic, all four have survived the nestling phase this season.
Windows at buildings and houses kill so many birds, that is unbelievable. Lonely in Germany a few millions every year.

Thank you for sharing, Liz.
