Re: Following Karls' Families

Post by Hulbi Lorm »

Hi Francesca (and all others) :hi:,

actually I think Kaia has moved quite a bit to the East. Yesterday's map has her at a place called an-Nahud, today she is shown at al-Ubayyid to the East.

A pity that we still don't know where Karl II is right now. I had hoped he'd be "back" already. I guess he may have decided to take a small break somewhere without good GPS coverage. But very glad to get news from Kaia again!

Yes, Hulbi Lorm, you are right.
This is even better!

And regarding Karl II: we are expecting the data in about 10-20 minutes. Then we know more ...

PS: nothing from Karl II today ...

Hi everyone :hi:,

and wow, Karl II! While I was thinking he took a small break somewhere in Egypt,he made over 3,000 kilometers. That's amazing!

Also great to see Kaia's spot of the day, as long as we can't get the full data.

Now let's hope that Bonus shows up some time in the next weeks, and that everyone safely reaches their destinations for the summer.

Good day all around  ,

thanks for great news - and something :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: like this is getting closer and closer.
Super family father Karl II is indeed the impressive "overflyer". And about the few data points that come from Kaia, you are just as happy. :headroll:
Waba? Bonus? Isn't it that the young storks like to stay in the wintering grounds? We'll see and fingers crossed applies to all.

Fussel, the young storks will move north, but probably only half-way. Like Udu last year, who spent his summer in Italy. From what I've read here the young ones also tend to move later than the grown-ups, so no cause for concern that we haven't heard from Bonus so far.

KAIA 23.03.2023

Kaia has spent the night and early morning in the fields of the Nile north of Khartum near Wad Ramli.

.

She travelled to the north and is now at the knee of the Nile near the 5th cataract near Sulaymaniyah.

The route from Wad Ramli (this morning) to Sulaymaniyah (this afternoon) by feet would be about 376 km. Kaia would have made less kilometers by flying I suppose. Maybe 2/3 ... this would be about 250 km in the air.

Karl II crossed the Bay of Iskenderun between 12:19 and 13:09 UTC.

Image

He is now behind the city of Adana (amazing how he has surrounded the city) and found a nice quiet resting place in the province of Mersin near the village of Avadan on big trees:

I suppose that's all from me today and this week!
