So, Alla laid her egg secretly on the night of March 27/28 and we don't know the exact time

10:55 Alla stands up, stretches, goes to the nest rim, 11:08 preens, 11:18 covers the egg
11:51 Alla flies away
11:52 Ruudi lands, 11:55 flies away ... and is quickly back with a nice spruce branch , 11:58 flies away
12:10 Alla is back with a piece of bark
12:19 Ruudi with a green pine branch, small talk and Ruudi leaves
12:38 Alla covers the egg

But also nice that Alla was without visitors during this time.

Hello Polly - Hellem and everyone.

Thanks for your documentation.

Congratulations to the couple, it is going very well after the enormous work they have done. Ruudi is a nest building machine. I have observed that the couple get along very well with each other.

May everything continue well although there have been jobs nearby but not like last year.

Well, she's a little off balance and her limbs are probably stiff. No wonder ...

I remember last season's crime thriller. It wasn't just our female hawks H21 and Alla who sometimes stayed under snow during periods of frost. It also affected other broods. Just like every year with birds that start breeding early.
But they have great management and regulate everything so perfectly that - like here and despite the eggs often lying uncovered in severe frost for hours, all the eggs ended up becoming chicks.

They're so much smarter than us.

'17 Then she gets up, stands on the edge of the nest and looks around.


'28 She leaves the nest towards the camera
'45 back and covers the egg

07:14 Alla gets up, loosens the nest floor and then stands on the edge of the nest.


She loosens her feathers. She loses fluff...
Alla swallows a feather.




'25 She goes back on the egg and covers it.

Egg - Sitting for Ruudi

07:52 Ruudi comes into the nest - Alla leaves it.


First Ruudi does 3 minutes egg dance with plucking and looking out, then he covers it.

'06 He flies into a nearby tree

'15 Ruudi leaves the nest.

Ruudi has bumblebees up his butt.

10:19 am Alla leaves the nest again. Seems she was lured or noticed something.

10:50 Ruudi takes over and brings a branch with him.


Put him in the nest bowl, stand by the egg...on the edge of the nest and out in '52.

He does a little nest work and then stands by the egg. And waiting for Alla?

Almost cheesy but the nest really has an atmospheric location.




Somehow both partners know when the eggs need to be chilled or kept at temperature.

A very explicit vote or everyone decides for themselves? (They test with their feet by touching the egg.)
