Re: Estonian White-tailed Sea Eagle Nest Camera 2023
10:58: Watching what is going on in the air, 'Smiley' calls. You can hear birds (geese, cranes) passing by.
11:01: Egg roll.
11:24: Egg roll.
11:32f.: She calls twice. Something/someone she doesn't like to be here.
11:42: Calling again.
11:43 ff.: Calling.
Well, she certainly does not call without a reason.
12:02 ff.: Calling. You can hear ravens, there is a big bird's shadow (I'll try to capture this - sorry, I can't, my stream today is beyond good and bad, you can see it from 12:02:19 on.) and an answering male voice .
Still ka-ka-ing from time to time.
12:16: Change. E 340 comes back with some material and covers the egg, 'Smiley' off again.
12:25: A female (?) voice, E 340 answers.
11:01: Egg roll.

13:05: E 340 calls. -
'Calling Sunday', I guess. What we cannot see: the why and the who. Is it always or necessarily a conspecific? Or do other species, known as nest predators (corvids for example), trigger his alarm or anger call?
In comparison with his mate, E 340 is rather 'Mr Cool' (and relaxed).
13:29 ff.: There seems to be a Black Grouse singing/calling. (interesting, but nothing dangerous).
13:51: Egg roll.
- There was another calling, I missed the time.before/after 14:15?
14:39: Egg roll.
14:42/43 ff.: E 340 is calling. At his, I think: 3rd call, 'Smiley' answers. Vets, take a look at his throat - looks fine, doesn't it?
E 340 gets up, before 'Smiley' is on the nest, onto the p-branch - and flies away. Distant calling from both.
14:47: 'Smiley' branches at the right first, then hops into the nest and takes over.

15:28: 'Smiley' rolls her egg. - Ooops. Now you know why a second egg would be of high value. A wind gust disturbing her balance while rolling the egg and finding a new position, oi-joi. - But everything is OK.
15:42: Egg roll.
16:14: Egg roll, nicely balanced.
16:48: Egg roll.
17:20: "
17:42: Egg roll. - This is the first time since she laid that she looks more relaxed to me. She does not seem to be such a daytime sleeper like her mate, although I think she is quite tired, but from morning till early afternoon, she was triggered by so many external stimuli. Perhaps this is part of becoming an eagle mother. She will accustom to that new role. I don't know of course, but I suspect her to be a first-time-breeder.
17:48/49: Cam down. Mike on. -
17:54: and back again.
17:57 sth: and gone again. - And back (again?) at 18:07
18:10 ff: Calling softly.
18:17: Egg roll.

18:43: 'Smiley' leaves the nest and flies to the right, I think. Two voices, male and female, greetings, E 340 was close by.
18:44: Both return to the nest tree and call. E 340 on the p-branch, 'Smiley' on a branch at the right.
E 340 takes over incubation.
18:49: 'Smiley' leaves from the branch at the right.
E 340 on duty

19:20: E 340 calls. Well, he IS on guard.
19:25: Egg roll.
19:26: Not quite accomplished, another 45°turn - done.
19:27 f: No,no - back to position from before. (maybe the wind annoyed him.)
19:39: Surprise, surprise: 'Smiley' has branched at the right first, greeted by E 340.
19:42: And off she goes again, after preening on the p-branch.
19:43: Comes back with a bundle of hay. Change.
20:13: Camoff, mike:on. - I hear some crackling sounds - egg roll (?) plus some nest work.

Susanne, first breeders usually lay more eggs because they are inexperienced.Susanne wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2023, 3:35 pm ...17:42: Egg roll. - This is the first time since she laid that she looks more relaxed to me. The number of eggs is related to food availability. I have read about it in various books and also studies.
https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... _in_Sweden....It is concluded that egg production and nestling survival were suppressed by limited food supply and nest success by human interference...

The number of eggs ranges from 1-3 (or even 1-2) and they often state "2" as a median, so that number is quite stuck in our heads. I haven't come across a study yet which states that the number of eggs is significantly higher due to lacking breeding experience (first-time breeders). Clutch size may be related to availability of food which affects all eagles in a certain area, yes, . - But is this really the case here?

hello!
i created two polls for the names of the eagles. it turned out that it's possible to make one poll per one topic. so the poll for the female names is in this topic and the poll for the male's name in the another topic here:
viewtopic.php?p=892825#p892825
i took the suggested names (those which exist as names in Estonian) in alphabetical order.
the polling time is one week from today.

15:23: Egg roll.
- Is this true, did I see it right: There hasn't been any change since morning? 'Smiley' hasn't come back, not even once? Now, this is utterly concerning.I feel a little sick at the moment.
16:10: Egg roll.
16:37:He is calling.I saw another WTE flying from the left to the right.

Susanne, that's right, the female hasn't shown herself yet. I also wondered.
16:35
male calls.
Ame, thank you for your effort. I will not participate, as names for wild animals are not important to me. I accept the majority .

She's away now for over ten hours.
17:03: Oh my goodness, she is back! Perching on a branch at the right, cleaning her beak. Her crop is full. Then onto the p-branch, change (the very, very long awaited one), E 340 has to fill his crop now, too.
Long time-no see 'Smiley':
17:18: Egg roll.

Yeah, back at 18:12. And 'Smiley' still on the nest.
18:37 ff.: 'Smiley' calls twice, she sees someone circling/soaring above the nest tree. Shortly before, egg roll.
18:48: Egg roll.
19:27 ff.: PS and egg roll.
