Hurray!
The first egg!
:loveshower: :loveshower: :loveshower:

Congratulations Kaia and Karl II !

Kaia took us a bit by surprise. :D
Usually, BS lay their eggs at night.
Could the owl's terrifying visit have caused a 'delay'?

A nice surprise, they are such a beautiful couple, on to a beautiful sequel. And may the owl not stay, I like owls, but not here. :loveshower: :loveshower: :headroll:

10:54 mating

Hello @Anne7 :hi:
I'm glad Kaia didn't drop the egg in shock last night.

There were 8 days between Kaia's arrival and the first egg.

Please don't hide the egg @Kaia. We like to keep an eye on it.

I wonder why Kaia and/or Karl do not cover/hatch their egg? It is pretty cold outside

Hello @astelpaju :hi:
Cool is good. They make sure that the egg does not become too cool, but want to delay breeding.
There should be no too much distance when hatching all eggs.

We expect even more eggs.

11:48 Karl II wanted to sit down. When Kaia comes down from the curved branch into the nest, he quickly gets up again.

Hello Swenja :hi:

You are right, and in previous years there were 12 days between arrival and first egg.

We would have been even more unnerved last night if we had known that Kaia was about to lay her first egg.

This morning I made some additional images of the attack.
And made an attempt to get the screenshots a bit sharper.

It all happened within a second.
The owl must have flown very silently. Karl II and Kaia did not hear him approaching.

That looked like a harsh "collision".
Did the owl try to knock Karl II off the nest?
