My heart skipped a beat when I saw only one chick,
and luckily the little one finally appeared next to the fish.

Yesterday evening, the fourth chick hatched. It's wonderful to see all six of this year's Manton Bay residents all together this morning.

Unfortunately, we start the day with sad news. Yesterday, as some of you noticed, the fourth chick was unmoving for much of the day, not even managing to food beg. We believe that it passed away at some point yesterday morning.
While this is obviously not the news we wanted, we must look at the positive - all three of the other chicks are looking well and being fed by Maya. Let's hope for three successful fledglings this year 🤞

The three chicks are growing quickly thanks to all the fish that 33(11) continues to deliver to the nest

Fantastic to see the whole family on the nest at Manton Bay.
33(11) has just delivered a pike to the nest and the three youngsters are keen to tuck in!

Not long now until the youngsters will be flying!
They've lost most of their down and are fully feathered, doing lots of preening and also stretching their wings too😀

The nest is looking a little overcrowded at the moment!
The youngsters will stay here through the summer - still plenty of time to see them at Manton Bay!

How they've grown, almost as big as their parents!
The youngsters are HUGE!
They'll be ringed soon - fledging is not long away - they've already been helicoptering in the nest today!
(The camera will go off-line when the ringing takes place - thank you for bearing with us while this is done)

Up, up... and not quite away! 3H3 has been doing some helicoptering in the nest today, but I'm not sure her siblings were very impressed!

Male 3H4 took his first flight this morning after a few tentative hops around the nest. All three youngsters will remain with us through the summer as they practice their flying skills😀
