Goshawk nest in Riga 2023

I have not heard anything in the last few days although I usually track about 4-5 hours a day except for a few days that I have not been able to.

On the other hand, in England, the New Forest, since approximately April 24, 2023, there is a goshawk camera.

The goshawks that are breeding become quieter with young chicks, the noise is made by the young and the greetings of the male when he brings food.

In this nest we don't know if they are breeding elsewhere but it's hard to hear anything.
From 16:58 to 17:00 a little was heard, although it cannot be ruled out that it is Jay.

It remains exciting.
The last time I heard an H was on May 12th. It sounded like trouble.

I watched this one late in the evening. It sounded like a woodpecker.

The area is filled with the voices and cries of residents.
Often woodpecker but also Jay. The crows have calmed down ... over the nests lies the calm of the breeding season.


For a few days (3 - 4) there have been faint voices that definitely sound like Hawklets. You are getting stronger, today you can hear it very well.
I'm not saying they're Hawklets! But it sounds like it. It can be other chicks.

However, it would be strange to hear the little ones when there is no acoustic activity from the parents.

Perhaps there will soon be more binding signs.

Glad to read you again, I know you've been following the camera. I almost every day do a few hours.

Today the goshawk rang again at 7:57:26, the chickens are too small to be heard unless you are a few meters away. There are voices that get confused and that are more our desire than reality and sometimes play a trick on us.

We will have to wait , maybe I. Jakovslev will give us some information sometime , if not until the chicks fly ( if they are breeding , I think so ) and visit this nest we will not know anything and we would have to wait for Julio - August.

here still no sign of our couple or any descendants.

The constant flea market behavior of the little ones has also come to rest. Hardly a bird in the nest - all are now busy in their own nests.

A crow visited the nest yesterday.

I follow the news through the forums but the chat disappears soon.
They are already ringing the goshawks in Riga and this year we don't know anything. Until now they have always bred at this time here and it is new that they have changed or that they do not reproduce, it is all speculation and what we hear is also compatible with either of the two actions.
It's nice to hear them again, I haven't been able to listen to them any day and sometimes it's lucky that you band the time slot in which they are heard.

While in Kengarag, H92 is still in his area and may have been seen during ringing.

Today I have listened to the goshawk at 13:21:15 and then at 13:24-25 y de13:46 a 13:48 varias veces.

Yeah, I heard those shouts too, and the one in 13:48 sounded pretty angry.

At first I thought that I was being rung. The excitement increased.
But then, with the 'last announcement', there was silence - too quickly for ringing.
I decided against a video. Too quiet, too distant.

I would also have phrased Goshawk neutrally. I have listened to the calls several times and cannot say without a doubt that it was an 'H'. If so, then H21.

But well ...
Certainly this nest will be conquered again. Either our H's actually return or other prospects will conquer it.
A few weeks, then we'll see more.

They are still around even from time to time. Now the new chicks will be about to fly and will continue to spend time hunting with their parents.

While he was looking at the camera, H21 appears with a prey and it takes a while to jump onto his branch. 14:01:36.

The last sightings of both H44 and H21 in the nest are with prey. They may be destined for their pups this year and we will have more visits from now on.

I thought for a moment it might be H44. The back plumage seemed dark, more contrasting.
I watched the eyebrows in slow motion, but they look wide like H21.

The movements and the way of being also clearly differentiate H21 from H44. H21 has seen all its distinctive features very well except the tail.
Their elongated voice is generally used a lot since the chickens are growing, but this season they are not around here at all and we have not been able to observe it.
As for the second sighting, it does look like H44 to me, the mustache in one of the stationary images is darker and contrasted as well as shorter. You can also see the white under the tail a little displayed, something that has not been noticed in H21. A year or so ago we filmed H44 in heat around this time.

It has been a coincidence to be able to see them live but also with the hours that we listen to sometime we have to have these gifts.
