Thanks, Swenja.

:bash: We had a power cut in the village.

I'll prepare a few extra pics.

Karl II gets up

Both chicks sleep. Karl II does a ps.

#1 yawns. #2 sleeps (and looks still wet). :innocent:

Karl II tries to wake up sleepy #2. In vain, #2 wants to sleep.
Image

#1 is already very good at nibbling bits out of the softened fish.
Image

Karl II takes back the very soft fish. Some small pieces fall off.

19:48:52 #3 ?
Does the egg have holes?

Image

Egg #3 is 29 and egg #4 is 27 days old today.

It's probably just dirt.

Yes, I think it has, Swenja! :D

#3 is already arriving too, apparently.

Karl II and Kaia breed strong chicks.

Amazing, isn’t it? 8-)

It looks like the egg has two pips and is talking.

They don’t allow you a break.

21:22 Karl II gets up.

He rolls an egg. The chicks are sleepy.

Karl II does a ps.
Image

He preens the 2 little ones.
Clean butts are important.
Image

He rolls the eggs and the chicks. :-)

He shakes his plumage.

He aerates the nest floor.
He rolls the eggs once more.

21:23 He covers the eggs and the chicks.
The egg on the right looks "crackeled".

Good night

That part in 19:03:24, where #1 reached for a piece about half a body length away, and gobbles it down in the second attempt is very impressive.

It's so impressive that I wanted to put a screenshot of it. I just have no way of posting a picture here.

That is a great pity. @tsang6482
Yes, you are right. Chick #1 has a very good appetite.

Pip clearly visible at 21:22:13
Chick #3 is on the way for sure!

Image

Wasn't this the egg Kaia laid a day late due to the stress from the owl attack? This might mean that the egg is okay, after all.

Chick #3 is making great progress.
I can see a larger crack at 22:54:09 when the egg is turned.
Cannot take a proper picture because it just doesn't capture it well enough. Can be observed through movement, not by still image.

Image

Edit: Hold on... That was not egg #3 but #4... Was that a crack or just grass that stuck to the egg? I may have been wrong.
Because at 23:21:32 I see egg #3 with the small pip again at the front.

Hi brofasa,

no, no crack. IR-light and the camera lens construct a reflection that makes it possible for us to see clear shadows on a light background (white eggs). What you saw as supposed grass stuck to the egg is just the shadow of a blade of grass standing upright in front of the egg. You can also see this produced kind of shadow on the left egg, the thin twig even casts a double shadow :D

In the beginning of watching live-streams with IR-light, this fooled me often enough, especially at times of hatch-watch

Ah, I see. Wishful thinking, I guess xD

Although... Hold on...

00:38:31 the eggs are revealed and...
Do my eyes deceiveth me yet again?
Pip on #3 and #4 at once?
Or is it just dirt stain?

Better pic at 00:38:36

On the left egg it is def a PIP, on the egg on the right i think it is dirt.

I saw at 00.31.05 the PIP very clear (the egg was at that time on the right), when Karl II rolled the other egg, the protruding eggshell on the egg on the right was clearly visible.

EDIT: 00.40.46 egg on the left: for a short moment appeared the bright tiny beak in the PIP-hole :D

Can't keep my eyes open any longer..... :offtobed:

Have a good night watch

BTW: at 22.05 i heard the lovely woodcock, i missed him already

June 02

Good morning!

Thank you @balistar and @brofasa :hi:

05:20/21 Kaia comes at home.

Image

Karl II flies away. He brings nesting material.

Egg #3 in the morning.
Image

06:21 Kaia feeds the chicks. She gave the chicks only mashed food.

Image

The nesting material is piled high. There is not much to see.
