If this "egg nurturing" male gene confers an advantage, who knows. We might be seeing the evolution of equal brooding duties in LSEs

Well, what with all the pip_speak 'n all, Andris came good late this evening, after a lean day at the butchery.
21:14 Andris the egg-lover flies in with a rodent, surprising a slumbering Anna.

Difficult to see clearly, but a medium sized rodent, here visible beneath Anna's talons.

Anna is restrained and doesn't swallow it. She chirrups and chirrups as she is wont when Andris is around but Andris, well he WILL look at his eggs.

And maybe even half pretend to incubate. He rolls the eggs and digs a bit beneath them and then hovers, indecisively: "to brood, or not to brood, that is the question!". With Andris watching on, Anna starts eating one of the prey, tearing it but I am unsure if she ate it all. There is no doubt that we are seeing some unusually protracted on nest interactions between a breeding pair of LSE's. My sense, is that Anna has started coming to terms with Andris' behaviour - she seems a little less intense in her trilling.
Andris flies out at 21:19. But his day is not done.
21:20:

21:22 Andris departs and Anna returns to her deep slumber at 21:33. Darkness slipped her from our view as we await the 'morrow and an egg with a small hole or two.
