Blue 0H1 and 0H2 in the Saturday evening sun. The two brothers are still in the valley and Aran has delivered two fish so far this morning.

We haven't seen 0H2 since Monday 10:28, and the last sighting of 0H1 was Tuesday morning 09:53, which means they have started their first migration. Here is a video of the last time we saw the Glaslyn chicks of 2023.

September 8, 2022 - it is a year to the day since we saw Mrs G for the last time. Mrs G was remarkable, a very special bird, a legend in her own lifetime and will always be remembered at Glaslyn Ospreys. Thank you for a wonderful 19 seasons.

The last time we saw Aran with our nest camera was on Friday 8th, though we are receiving daily reports of osprey sightings near the Cob in Porthmadog. It is possible Aran is still in the area, taking advantage of the opportunity to feed as much as possible to prepare for migration. We will let you know if we have any confirmed sightings.

The Glaslyn Ospreys Visitor Centre has now closed and the Osprey family are well on their way south for winter. Thanks very much to you all for your continued support and kindness.
We will keep the Live Streaming and Chat switched on over the winter months, so please continue to pop in and out, and we look forward to welcoming you back next spring.

Refurbishing the Glaslyn Nest.
Before our Ospreys return each Spring, we take the opportunity to visit the Glaslyn nest and give it an annual maintenance overhaul. Why do we not just leave it for the Ospreys to sort out themselves?

Early yesterday morning Blue 014 (Poole Harbour translocaton 2018) visited the Glaslyn Nest, having returned to her own nest at 05:52.
She did not have to wait long to be reunited with her mate, Z2/Aeron (Dyfi 2017) as he returned to the Friends of the Ospreys Pont Croesor nest yesterday afternoon. Congratulations to FotO, we hope the pair have another successful breeding season.

Blue 372 has been visiting the Glaslyn Nest since Sunday. She is a female from the Poole Harbour translocation in 2021 and was seen in Wales last season, although we did not positively identify her intruding at the Glaslyn nest.
Yesterday Aran shared a Rainbow Trout with Blue 372 so things are progressing well, but it is still very early days at the moment.
We have not seen Elen since last Wednesday morning and do not know where she currently is. With many Ospreys still to return to nests anything could happen, so it is definitely a case of watch this space!

When do we expect Elen to lay an egg?
Females in established pairs generally lay their first egg 10 to 14 days after they first commence mating with their partners. Young females in newer pairings tend to lay their first egg around 14 to 18 days after first copulations begin.
Last year in her first season of breeding with Aran, Elen laid her first egg after only ten days of settling with him on the nest. It was possible that she had mated with another male prior to meeting Aran. Early copulations are mainly about pair bonding and stimulation of hormones, so the eggs she produced would have been fertilised by Aran.
We do not know where Elen was or what she was doing after she left the nest on March 27 until she reappeared on April 4, so your guess is as good as ours as to when the first egg will be laid.
Keep on watching!

KA5/Roli :loveshower:

April 18

Blue KA5/’Roli’ (Llyn Brenig 2019) checked in on the Glaslyn nest yesterday afternoon, after being spotted at lunchtime perched in one of the feed trees by one of our sharp-eyed Protection volunteers. It is the fourth year in a row that he has visited the Glaslyn nest, just as his parents Blue 24 and Blue HR7 did before they became the Brenig pair between 2018 and 2020.
We hope that ‘Roli’ is successful in finding his own nest and mate this year.
