Re: Estonian Osprey nest 2 - 2024

Post by Sappheira »

The first time an alien male flew to the nest was at 4:24 (corrected after of messages mogga and Hellem). He behaves like a nest owner, Iiris tries to drive him away, but he doesn’t fly away.

The male spent the entire morning on the nest, but the male with the amber eyes was nowhere to be seen.

Hello Sappheira  , I made a video starting at 04:35 until 08:31. So this was the whole morning the foreign male and not the amber-male ?

Hello mogga :hi:
Yes, I also recorded everything, I’ll post the video now. Yesterday the camera was turned off the entire afternoon, maybe something happened...

At 4:35 he immediately flew away, at 4:56 he remained a little, and since 5:33 he remains near the nest or on the nest almost all the time.

(UPD)
pictures of male 2 for comparison with male 1 and for future identification

:hi: sappheira, mogga and all

The invasion of the strange male began 4:24
9:57 The strange male with fish, Iiris tried to get it but the stranger flew away with it
10:50 The stranger brought a huge headless fish, Iiris took it and flew away
10:56 The stranger is digging in the nest (on the eggs) :slap:
11:01 He pushed one egg to the edge of the nest  , 11:05 is digging and digging ... is trying to push out the remaining eggs ...
11:27 The alien male flew away
11:28 Iiris and the stranger landed, Iris with her halfeaten fish
11:34 Iiris left the fish and sat on her 2 eggs, the alien landed on her back ... and off, 11:38, 11:39 ... again the alien landed on her back
12:09 The alien male took the fish tail from the nest and flew away with it
12:20 Cam off

An osprey with fish flew over the nest.
09:56
The new male brought the fish, but did not give it to Iiris, harshly tore it out of her beak and flew away with the prey.

The male2 jumped off the camera stand and sat on Iiris's back. Iris flew away to drive away the crow. The male2 watches them and then also flies away.

The male2 examined the egg, then approached it and flew away, capturing the grass, the egg became better visible. The egg haunts the male, apparently he will try to get rid of it. We are waiting for the next fish when Iiris flies off for lunch...

The male2 is "programmed" to build the nest and mate. He's not going to incubate the eggs from another male.

I really don't want to see the drama... At this juncture, we can only judge whether it is our male or an intruder based on the behavior of the male. The question is where does our male go ? Disappeared in just one day ?

Heavens - Ospreys .... they are always good for a drama, aren´t they? :faint:
Thank you all for your reports!

Together with the permanent camera stops no pleasing situation.

Morning of May 2, 2024. :hi:

04:42 - 08:58

Early in the morning two eggs were still in the nest. Then the male brought the fish and when Iiris flew off to breakfast, he began working in the nest bowl again and threw the second egg onto the edge (04:44 am).

Iiris continues to incubate the remaining egg...

The male is constantly present in the nest area and spends a lot of time on the nest.

10:49 The camera changes color to a darker and more contrasting one.
Perhaps the solar battery has charged?
