Three eaglets survived after the nest fell down!
Denton Homes Eagles on 5/21/2024
Located West of Des Moines, Iowa
Tremendous winds made the nest fall along with the 3 eaglets on it. Horrible!
Less than an hour later Dad flies in with a fish to find nothing left.
Mom comes right after, with a fish.
They look around, not knowing what happened.
Miraculously, the babies survived and were taken to SOAR (Saving Our Avian Resources} for evaluation.
Denton Homes came within 2 hours and built a nest on a platform.
If all is well with the babies, they can be put in the nest today.

~ tough, but necessary decision ~
SOAR feels the Denton home eaglets need to come into rehabilitation because:
** Parents have not been visiting or feeding.
** The eaglets have spent more than 40 hours without food. We are worried about starvation and dehydration.
** The eaglets' bodies are growing many feathers at this stage and need good nutrition to form properly.
** Structure they are in is susceptible to predation, being only 8 feet or so off the ground.
** Plus, we are in line for more storms tonight with heavy rain and wind.
Thanks must go to Jen at Iowa Bird Rehabilitation for her efforts!
Once these eaglets are stable, have gained weight, and are a bit older, they will join other eagles in the flight pen.
We have been successfully rehabbed eagles of all ages and stages for the last 25 years.

An uninvited guest visited Connie's nest. She was not happy with it.

@asteria
Yes, I saw it that day and I thought it was crazy how beautiful!
I think some people in the chat asked if the eagles wouldn't eat them but no... apparently not. (I can't imagine either)

I still like to look into the nest at Bonnie & Clyde and there was also an encounter there that made me smile.
An opossum visited the nest at night and Bonnie watched it ...she sat and watched ...it could have been different.
I think they are all more tolerant without eggs or chicks in the nest.
