Re: Estonian Osprey nest 2 - 2024

Post by Urmas »

Yesterday there was still one egg in nest and female incubating, but connection lost after short. Last days here was few sun and there are batteries weakened. If some possibility appears, we will try to change batteries, but that means disturbance. So there is a dilemma - maybe solved later. In case of longer sun shine the cam may start again, but it is necessary to link it into YouTube manually (if noticed te launch).

Hello osprey fans :hi:

No sign of revival and self-loading batteries after longer sunshine until now
I checked today and there is no transmission at all, not only linking to YouTube is missing.

Also updated the main events on the first page, there have been so many attack events that I could not mention all of them there. As none of the attackers had rings it is not possible to tell how many different individuals it have been at all.

My guess is, that there is at least one other occupied and active osprey nest rather close to the nest here. That could explaine the continuous and permanent attacks during the whole season.

It seems that Iiris gave up incubating meanwhile, but there is still some fishy business on the nest :D

Hi Berit,

yes, it is sad and shows how fragile and subsceptible a nesting season is, even when two birds found each other, eggs were laid, food is available.
There are so many components that can go wrong, even under favourable circumstances it is no self-runner ...

Iiris was away for a while, but is back on the egg again.
I haven´t seen any sign of M1 while I was watching the stream (still unstable, with permanent short breaks)
It has no rewind and I could not watch permanently

I guess nothing is impossible.

Hello, Urmas! Thank you for your hard work and for keeping us informed.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

It is difficult to get in YT with frequently stopping transmission, so if anybody wants to check situation in nest here is direct link:

link removed (Bea, 28.04.2025)

it appears working if there is enough light, but not always.

Urmas, thank you very much for the opportunity to observe the nest.

Iiris has returned to the nest and is covering the egg, clucking constantly.
Does this mean that M1 is in the visible zone?

Iris sits on the nest and very actively asks for fish.
The weather is sunny, a strong wind is blowing.

It's a pity that we, in Miinas and Markos Nest, never had the opportunity...well

Iiris flew away with the fish, M1 moved the branches and covered the egg.
