We recently received some very exciting news from our friend Jean-marie Dupart in Senegal about Blue KS1, who hatched on the Glaslyn nest in 2018. KS1 was first recorded back in the UK in June 2020, when she spent some time in north-west England. By August she was in Scotland, where she intruded at the Borders Ospreys nest, near Jedburgh. In 2021 she was recorded intruding at one of the Kielder Ospreys nests in Northumberland. Then during 2022 we received the fantastic news that she had successfully raised two chicks with an unringed male at a new nest on the Bolton Estate in Yorkshire, the first breeding in the county since modern records began. To date she has raised seven chicks with her mate.
Although we assumed that she spent her winters in west Africa, along with most other British Ospreys, there had never been a recorded sighting of her there. Jean-marie was doing his regular Osprey survey along the coast in northern Senegal on January 25 when he photographed KS1 3km north of Lompoul. Thank you to Jean-marie for allowing us to share his photos of her.

Preparations for building the new Glaslyn nest continued apace on Monday when tree surgeon Steve Laddiman and his assistant Hywel from Roundwood Tree Technology, climbed the 80 feet Silver Fir tree to remove the three cameras, two microphones and associated cabling. This will make it easier for Darren Moore to build and install the new nest and also provides an opportunity to safely clean and check the equipment on the ground.
Before the cameras went off, we also managed to take a picture of the squirrel, which has been heard on the Live Stream noisily chewing the microphone cover! Steve will return once the nest has been built to reinstall the equipment under the guidance of our technical contractor Andy Richards.
In the meantime, followers can continue to see views of the Glaslyn Valley and wildlife on the river on our winter Live Stream from Pont Croesor.

Aran and Elen’s new nest has been completed and awaits the pair’s arrival later this month!
Darren Moore and his team from Friends of the Ospreys constructed the nest atop the 80-foot Silver Fir tree on Sunday.
Built in 2014 the old nest had been well used by all three of our Osprey pairings – 11(98) and Mrs G, Mrs G and Aran and Elen and Aran. In that time 26 chicks successfully fledged the nest but parts of it had started to deteriorate. It served the Glaslyn osprey families well!
With the kind permission of the National Trust, branches to build the new nest were secured from nearby Parc Craflwyn, Nant Gwynant where a larch tree had fallen during Storm Darragh.
A new oak perch has also been installed. The old one will be put on display at Pont Croesor so that visitors can get a close-up view.
We will show more images of the new nest once the three cameras and other equipment are reinstalled on the tree later this week. Thank you to Darren and his team and also to Gail Edgley who photographed Sunday’s event, another milestone in the story of Glaslyn Ospreys.

We're pleased to report that we have now re installed the three cameras, two new microphones and the air fibre dish using over 260 metres of new cabling on the Glaslyn nest tree as planned, and are completing some final technical work before activating our live stream at the end of next week. We hope you will tune in as we eagerly await the return of the Glaslyn pair at the end of the month.

Live pictures of the newly refurbished Glaslyn nest are now being streamed on YouTube from our 4K ultra high definition cameras as we await the return of Aran and Elen for their third year together.
This is the fourth version of the nest. The first was built by 11(98) and Mrs G in 2004, only to be blown down in a storm that summer. A replacement man-made nest was built for them in 2005 which the pair successfully used until the Friends of the Ospreys built the 2014 version which has now been replaced.
Other work to upgrade cabling, microphones and one of the three nest cameras has also been completed over the closed season.
Your donations to keep our live stream running and fund replacement equipment are much appreciated.
Happy viewing!

The old iconic oak perch from the Glaslyn nest has been attached to the replica nest next to the Visitor Centre. It was replaced during the building of the new nest after continuous use by many birds since 2014. Glaslyn birds who used it over the years were Mrs G, 11(98), Aran and Elen with a total of 26 chicks who fledged the nest also landing on it! Intruding ospreys who perched on it included: from Dyfi - 2R/Clarach, Z1/Tegid, Z2/Aeron, KA3 /Hesgyn, KS6/Dinas, KC6/Teifi; from Brenig - Blue 24, HR7 and KA5/Roli and from Poole Harbour - Blue 014, 019 and 372. Not forgetting Clywedog's 5F/Seren and even one of Mrs G's 2012 offspring, Blue 80 in 2015 plus grand chicks Blue 1H from Kielder in 2015 and Blue 414 who intruded as a three-year-old in 2023.
Volunteers at the pre-season briefing at the weekend were delighted to get a close-up view of the famous perch which has only been seen from afar and on camera up until now. Volunteer Berni Cavanagh is pictured next to it. The Visitor Centre at Pont Croesor opens for the new season at 10:30 on Monday 24 March.

New visitor! KC6 / Teifi (Dyfi 2020) has been spending time with Elen on the nest over the last couple of days, although he has not been willing to share his fish with her so far. You better hurry home, Aran!

KC6/Teifi has been with us for almost a week now and Elen is looking comfortable in the nest with him.
Still no sign of Aran as yet. We are concerned, but have not given up hope that he will return.

We received the brilliant news from Jamie McCaffrey earlier this week, that he had photographed Blue 9C (Glaslyn 2014) fishing at Leighton Moss last Saturday. Thank you Jamie for allowing us to share your fabulous image.
Blue 9C has raised 20 chicks to date at a nest in Northern England, we hope that he has a successful breeding season once again this year.
