It's wonderful to see the return of longstanding female Osprey CJ7 back at the nest site at Careys Secret Garden, having arrived yesterday evening. She has now ousted the prospecting female 1H1 and is enjoying her place back on the nest with male 022. They have quickly fallen back into their old routine, with this being the fourth year of the pair nesting together, so hopefully it won't be long until eggs are on the way!
Please remember that Ospreys are a protected species, so we kindly ask that you don't turn up at Careys Secret Garden in an attempt to view the nest, as this may risk disturbing the birds at this sensitive time. We will announce the return of Carey Osprey Tours very soon, which will give exclusive guided viewing of the nesting pair from a safe distance - just watch this space!
In the meantime, you can enjoy watching all the activity unfold on the nest via our livestream webcams! Link to the Osprey webcams in the comments below πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

Noswaith dda, good evening.
Looks like 372 is feeding herself up after her migration to get herself in the best condition for the breeding season. What a whopper of a brown trout!!!!

An osprey landed on Nest 2 today at 14:04:19.
Consensus view is that it is Dorcha! πŸ˜€
Another bird landed on Nest 2 this morning at 10:35:34
We believe it is a female we have seen occasionally since 2021, nicknamed Really Dark Female (RDF)

Noswaith dda. Good evening.
Looks like 416 has lost some secondary feathers. Looking back it was between 7pm on 31st and 7am on the 1st. We don't know what happened. Does not seem to be effecting his ability to fly, fish or mate.
There is still time for LJ2 to arrive back. His arrival dates are between 31st March and 10th April.

Terrific news from our Spring Safari Cruise this morning when our 2021 translocated male Osprey '374' arrived for the first time this year in the Wareham Channel!
He gave us a close flyby, allowing Harry McBride to snap these great photos and identify him. We're hopeful that he may settle on a nest somewhere with a female and have a successful breeding season🀞! He's already been checking out some of our other artificial nests this afternoon.
We had a fantastic trip all round with sightings of the Forster's Tern as pictured, 3 Marsh Harrier, 5 Red Kite, 1 Pink-footed Goose and 5 Little Ringed Plover at Swineham, lots of hirundines arriving, c400 Black-tailed Godwit, c30 Avocet and c40 Sandwich Terns. Very spring-like with singing skylark and chiffchaff!

WE HAVE OSPREYS πŸŽ‰πŸ¦…
Yesterday evening, our first osprey of the season touched down on the nest – and it’s Asha! Our resident female, its her 5th year returning here to Loch Garten! πŸ’š
BUT that's not all! This morning, another bird has landed on the nest - a ringed male, 047. Hatched in 2021 from Moray, he was seen intruding here last year, but has never bred at this nest before.... so will be interesting to see what happens next and if anyone else joins the party... πŸ‘€

Triongl cariad yn nyth gwalch y pysgod. Love triangle at osprey nest.
An eventful morning already. 372 and 416 have been mating regularly. LJ2 comes to nest after 416 leaves and does not get a warm reception from 372 but he stands up to her. 416 is quite invested in this nest now so will not give it up easily. But as far as LJ2 is concerned its his nest. Its going to be an interesting few days.
Video of LJ2 on nest and reception from 372.

Noswaith dda, good evening.
Today was a more quiet day than expected. With LJ2's arrival yesterday we expected to see more of him today than we did. We saw him early this morning once but not at any other point today. He has just arrived back after migration so could be eating and resting to build up energy for challenging for the nest. Which is sensible.
416 did not stray far from the nest today so obviously feels threatened. He fished in front of the osprey lookout and in the Brenig on another occasion so was never far from the nest.
All very interesting behaviour.
This evening we saw an intruder that 372 chased away, so we presume a female intruder (didn't come near a camera so unknown) and in the video looks alarm calling and mantling so another unknown intruder.
Keep watching, the next few days are going to be interesting.

There were two brief visitors on the Glaslyn nest today - KA5 / Roli (Brenig 2019), followed by KS6 / Dinas (Dyfi 2018).

Brilliant news: CJ7 laid her first egg at 19:49 this evening πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Last night at 19:49, CJ7 laid her first egg of the 2025 season! After lots of courtship, fish handovers, nest building, mating and the odd intrusion by another Osprey(!) we now have the first egg at the Careys Secret Garden nest.
This is fantastic news and 2 days earlier than last year. We'll expect the next eggs to be laid 3 days apart, so Wednesday could be when we see the next one. The average time for the eggs to hatch is 37 days although the first egg often takes 40 days, due to delayed incubation. So, we're looking at hatching between 20th-23rd May! Since egg-laying both CJ7 and 022 have been dutifully brooding.
