Estonian Bird of the Year 2025, the Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), now has its own live webcams! The Great Cormorant is a species that has been persecuted for hundreds of years in Europe. In the 20th century, it was almost wiped out because of angry fishermen and DDT. Now its population is doing very well all over Europe, but this has again made the fish industry and hobby fishermen nervous and they are demanding actions against cormorants. In Estonia, tens of thousands of cormorant eggs are already being oiled on small islands. In addition, thousands of cormorants are being shot each year in Estonia. Unfortunately, this is happening all over the world with cormorants and the public opinion of cormorants is rather bad due to constant negative media coverage. We are hoping that the cormorant webcams can show people that cormorants are beautiful and fascinating. They are a part of our nature and they have every right to eat fish!

If one of the cameras is currently offline due to technical problems, then you can check the other one.
The cameras are located on a small island on the west coast of Estonia. There are tens of occupied nests around the cameras, but hundreds more further away.

If you enjoy the cormorant camera, then please consider making a small donation to BirdLife Estonia (Eesti Ornitoloogiaühing) so we could continue to protect the cormorants from unfair treatment (egg oiling, lethal scaring, large-scale hunting) by educating people and taking legal actions.
When making a donation, write “Donation” or “Annetus” (donation in Estonian) in the payment details and any other details you feel necessary to add. If you are from Estonia, you can also add your personal identification code in the payment details if you wish to deduct the donation from your taxable income.

Bad news! Humans are going to kill the unhatched chicks.
"The number of cormorants is still increasing, and this year the Environmental Board granted permission to oil cormorant eggs on a total of 24 islets."
Any ideas how to protect the birds?

There's a reason these eggs are oiled. They eat all the fish, and our food supply for eagles and other birds is dwindling.

Good morning, Fleur and others
There was an interesting object on the ground between the nests.

I suppose, it was an egg - look how it rolls when it's under a cormorant's flipper for the first time (7:46). It "was", because cormorant broke it at 8:08

A real egg of the couple also we could see this day

10:24-13:01 we can follow the white-tailed eagle's visit.
Cormorants noticed him and raised the alarm, but he landed anyway (the first bird who runs onto the "red carpet" in this gif, is a bird with a spotted breast, he has been seen here before.. is he an immature bird, i.e., not of other species..).

Suddenly the new Hero runs in from the right. He listened to what the others are telling him and rushes to attack the white-tailed eagle, some others also join him, and the eagle flies a little further.

There he sat calmly for almost 3 hours.
