It has been an eventful couple of days since Aran landed back in the valley. The Glaslyn nest has seen much activity with Aran and KC6/Teifi in dispute as well as visits from other intruding ospreys, namely KC1 and an unidentified female with a BTO ring.
In addition, Elen has laid her first egg of the season, which is currently buried under nesting material. It is not surprising that she has not incubated the egg considering the unstable situation on the nest.
There's no saying what will happen over the coming days, but there is only one way to find out - keep watching the live stream!

We’re glad to report that Aran returned to the nest and rejoined Elen at 17:25 this evening!
Elen would appreciate it if he bought a fish!

Aran has been present at the Glaslyn nest today and delivered a Rainbow trout to Elen this morning. We have not seen KC6/Teifi, but other intruding ospreys have briefly visited the nest.
One of them was Blue 498, the middle chick of Mrs G and Aran's last brood in 2022. We caught a quick glimpse of him as he flew past the nest at 09:18, before being chased off by Aran. Blue 498 was also seen in the valley in May last year.

Elen has laid her second egg of the season at 21:14 last night! She laid her first on April 13, but the egg was rejected by Aran and buried in the nest. Will Aran be accepting of this egg? Time will tell...

PLOP! Here is the video of Elen laying her second egg last night. She sat in the nest cup around 20:00, lifting at 21:14 for us to see the egg plop into the nest!

Glaslyn Hatrick!
It is incredibly rare for three chicks from the same brood to return as adults, so we were especially thrilled to learn that Blue 499, the youngest chick from Mrs G and Aran's final brood together in 2022, had intruded at the Dyfi Nest, near Machynlleth yesterday.
Middle chick Blue 498 intruded at the Glaslyn nest last Wednesday and Blue 497 was sighted by Jean-marie Dupart in Senegal on March 28. Both 497 and 498 were sighted in Wales last summer.
Thank you to Janine at Dyfi Osprey Project for allowing us to share this image of Blue 499 on the nest with 3J/Telyn.

The battle for the Glaslyn nest continues.
KC6/Teifi has been present on the nest over the last two days, but it became clear yesterday that he would not be accepting the eggs laid by Elen. He was seen nest scraping and breaking the eggs—not unexpected behaviour considering the unstable situation on the nest, and the confusion regarding the paternity of the eggs.
Volunteers and visitors at Pont Croesor yesterday watched Aran above the valley relentlessly chasing intruders, trying his best to defend and reclaim his territory.
We can only watch as the situation develops.

It has been a dramatic season so far with KC6/Teifi and Aran fighting for their place on the Glaslyn nest. On Tuesday it became clear that Aran had started his campaign in earnest to recover his nest. He began aggressively divebombing KC6/Teifi on the nest and chased him through the valley, leading to spectacular views for visitors and volunteers who watched them in the air from the Visitor Centre.
On Wednesday morning he brought a large Mullet to Elen before chasing Teifi out of his territory once again. He has been present on the nest today, and this evening returned with another fish for Elen. We have not seen Teifi on the nest camera since Wednesday morning.
Is this the beginning of a fresh start for Aran and Elen?

It continues to be a busy season full of Osprey sightings on the Glaslyn nest! Yesterday’s intruder was Blue 7C1 (2022), one of Mrs G’s grand-chicks hatched on a nest in the north of England to Blue 9C — the eldest chick of Mrs G's last brood with 11(98) in 2014. Blue 7C1 was also sighted at Clywedog and Dyfi last year.

It is now one week since Aran began the battle to regain the nest from KC6/Teifi. Teifi continues to intrude at the nest, but Elen now sees him as a threat to the nest rather than a potential mate and works with Aran to drive Teifi away from the nest.
The fourth egg is still being incubated by Elen, but is ignored by Aran. Elen is unlikely to be responsive to Aran's attempts to mate her while the egg remains in the nest. At the moment there is still time for the pair to produce a second clutch of eggs. We can only continue to watch and learn.

Roll back to April 30 2015.
On this day ten years ago Aran landed on the Glaslyn nest for the very first time, when the original male 11(98) failed to return. He arrived just in time and raised two chicks with Mrs G that year.
Ten years on and the situation at the nest is no less dramatic!

The battle continues. While it looked hopeful for a moment that Aran had reclaimed his nest, earlier this week saw KC6/Teifi returning to make another attempt at claiming the Glaslyn nest.
Aran has not been seen on the nest since 13:36 on Friday 2 May, though we have seen an Osprey we believe to be Aran chasing at least another two Ospreys high above the valley as he continues to defend his territory. It may be a while before this dispute is settled.

Kath Keir looked after the Glaslyn Osprey Adoptions for several years and Kath is now watching over one of the Glaslyn Ospreys!
Yesterday Kath photographed an Osprey on a fence post near to her home and she felt sure it was Aran. We looked at the photos Kath had taken and we feel certain that it is him. Aran has been resting and feeding himself up and it is good to know that he is safe and well. Thank you Kath for keeping your eye on a very special bird.

It is almost a week since KC6/Teifi rejoined Elen on the Glaslyn nest. Since the fourth egg was buried under nesting material they have resumed bonding with one another and there have been some successful matings. There is still a very small chance that Elen might lay again this season, but time is moving on now and Elen caught her own fish this morning.
Meanwhile Aran remains in the location we reported earlier on in the week and he is being monitored by Kath Keir. He does not appear to be injured and is fishing for himself. It is still too early to say whether he will attempt to return to the Glaslyn nest or whether he will remain in this location, which he knows very well.
We can only continue observing the lives of these incredible birds.

It has been a long and complicated few weeks of Osprey watching at the Glaslyn nest, with more twists and turns than a soap opera plot and the drama does not look to be over yet!
Our latest blog attempts to capture the ever changing story of the season so far.

The valley has been abuzz with Ospreys this season with no less than twelve visitors to the Glaslyn nest so far. Fortunately, our nest camera managed to capture photos of all the visitors, which you can view on our website: https://www.glaslynwildlife.co.uk/glasl ... ders-2025/

There have been more visitors to the Glaslyn nest lately, though not Ospreys this time. KC6/Teifi was divebombed by a pair of cheeky Hobbies on Monday. They didn't hang around for long!

It has been two weeks since the reunion of KC6/Teifi and Elen following the battle for the Glaslyn nest. Though Elen has not laid any more eggs, the window to lay has not yet closed completely. The two birds continue to spend time together in trees close to the nest, KC6/Teifi is still delivering fish and we have seen some successful mating attempts. We will see over the next few days if there will be a chance for chicks on the Glaslyn nest this year.
Aran is still spending time in the location we reported on last week, with another Osprey occasionally seen in the same area. We continue to receive regular reports from volunteers who are keeping an eye on him.
